I attended the Grand Launch of C2 Classic Cuisine earlier this past week.  We were served different dishes which we can sample and critique.  I said critique because most of us invited are from media.  They didn’t disappoint.  The food is good & well-presented.

Though I was late, they still served food to newcomers.  I wasn’t able to taste the other menu items because I was 2 hours late!  Good thing, they had backups so I was able to sample some of their dishes. 🙂

The ff. menu items were served to us:

  • Turon Ala Mode (Php 145)
4095787110_6d2f1d15a7

This is a popular dessert in the Philippines.  This is banana cooked spring-roll style with langka sauce on top.  Served with vanilla ice cream.

I love it!  The size is just right and you can just taste each & every ingredient.  Perfect combination & a nice twist done by C2 Classic Cuisine on the dish.

  • Seared Tilapia in Coconut Emulsion (Php 450)
4095028045_03ccf45d74

I like this dish.  Tilapia fillet fried into perfection and served with pineapple salsa in creamy coconut sauce.  I especially love that they put crunchy potato into the dish.  The presentation was great!  It really made the dish exciting & not boring.

  • Tinolang Binakol (Php 285)
4095028697_cbb72e82ba

This caught my attention right away because I’ve never seen soup served in a coconut shell before.  It’s nice that they had a porcelain container beside this dish, as the coconut shell will not be enough of a container to put the dish in.

Anyway, Tinolang Binakol is tender chicken cutlets in ginger-coconut soup served with sayote and coconut strips.  Honestly, I wasn’t able to taste any coconut strip but the coconut was still in the coconut shell hehehe 😛  Maybe they weren’t just able to carve the coconut because of time constraint.  Still, I believe this was a nice concept.  I was hoping they had put in more chicken though. .

  • Guinataang Puso ng Saging (Php 210)
4095790566_d95c3767e4

This was another great presentation!  This was spicy banana heart in coconut cream sauce wrapped in lettuce leaves.

The way each dish was presented and how unique each dish was, you could really see the effort they put in each and every dish that they serve. I love it!

  • Garlic Rice (Php 75)
4095791298_a1fd3c7d1e

This is what I really love about C2 Classic Cuisine.  Theirs is not the usual Filipino restaurant that we have in Manila.  The food is delicious.  It has this contemporary twist to it.  And more importantly: the price is just right. I will definitely try this out again.

I bet, if you’ve been reading my blog that you’ve already noticed I love Persian food.  Just last week, I blogged about Arya Persian Restaurant.  I’ve been craving a lot lately for comfort food.  I guess this is because of the stress I’ve been feeling these days.

I love the way the restaurant was designed.  It has its Indian, Persian, Arabian feel into it.  I especially love the chandeliers on the ceiling.  I can’t seem to take my eyes off it.

4087063987_77c1ae0786

Here are what we ordered:

  • Chelo Beef Kebab Share (Php 405)
4087819976_d4b914d502

My ever-favorite Persian menu item.  Hayyyyy Hossein’s saffron rice is just superb!  I can just eat their rice without anything and I would still feel satisfied.

The Chelo Beef Kebab on the other hand is ground beef charboiled with Middle Eastern herbs & Persian Spices.  I actually forgot about the garlic & chili sauce already as the ground beef was enough to make me satisfy my craving & hunger!  Yummy!

This actually has a solo version which is priced at Php225.  Can you keep a secret?  I know it isn’t enough for me! hahahaha that was how hungry I was before we ordered food.

  • Chelo Saffron Chicken Kebab (Php 465)
4087817640_c61b770367

For chicken lovers, this is Persian version of how chicken breasts should be cooked: marinated with Persian Saffron blend.

I would suggest you dip your chicken on the sauce on the plate so it won’t taste dry.  It was good as well but nothing beats the chelo beef kebab! 😀

  • Fresh Mango Juice (Php 130)
4087057551_8afaaa91e7

I don’t feel any water was combined with this drink.  I loved it!  It was very fresh and sweet! 🙂

  • Tom Yam Goong Share (Php 173)
4087815890_27905e156f

I wonder why I ordered a Thai dish when we were at a Persian Restaurant hahaha.  So I don’t have anyone to blame but myself that I didn’t like this dish.  One order of this has 4 pieces shrimp, 2 pieces tomato, 4 pieces of mushroom and lots of soup lolz!  That was it! 😛

More pictures here.

It was a very expensive meal, indeed!  I don’t feel the cheaper comment from the Shomal staff.  They just changed the name.  That was all.

This is still one of my comfort food, I just love the food!

I really hope that next time they really open a cheaper version.  This is not a valid cheaper version as they claim.  It’s as expensive as Hossein.  See my post about it here.

Kalye Juan

Just near Timog circle lies Kalye Juan, a Filipino restaurant that is open until wee hours.   I just got off a weekly late-night conference call and I haven’t eaten dinner.  So as not to rush closing time, this place was perfect for dinner.

With the tagline “Pagkaing Pinoy.. Mga Paborito ni Juan Dela Cruz”, you already know that everything is sooo pinoy.  I was just too hungry that I wanted to order almost everything I saw on the menu ahhaha!  But I know I can’t, so we just ordered 2 dishes, 1 fried rice and drinks!  Ended up sooooooo full but satisfied!

We ordered the ff.:

  • Sisig sa Kalye (Php 150)
4075454002_44585b1a7f

Typical Filipino dish: chopped grilled pork with fresh onions, chicken liver & fresh chili pepper.  Nothing special IMHO.  We requested it to be toasted more.  I do think that it’s not something we will remember Kalye Juan for.

  • Adobong Kangkong (Php 110)
4075454460_1e71b86af2

This one was just cooked perfectly!  It was very tasty.  I especially liked that they chopped the kangkong stems into smaller ones w/c made it easier to eat.  The shrimps were the perfect topping for the dish w/ garlic.

  • Bagoong Rice (Php 110)
4074698287_39489ea56c

I don’t know if I was too hungry or what but I think I like Kalye Juan’s version of bagoong rice over Thailand restaurants’ version of it.  Every piece of rice bit tasted like bagoong & w/ onion leeks combined, it was just heaven!  I loved eating this w/ adobong kangkong.

  • Guinilu sa Kalye (Php 50)
4074699803_1b747bf978

I was like saying this phrase over and over during dinner “this drink is just delicious… ang sarap!”.    Indeed it was.  This is Kalye Juan’s Guinilu.  It is a must order!!  It’s crushed ice w/ condensed milk, jelly & sago.  Wow!  It was just yummy!  One comment for the owners, please change the straw to a bigger one 😉

Two straight days of pigging out! hahaha!  I’m really so full!  I can’t even breathe well because I feel that food is already upto my throat :P:P  It’s beginning to be a habit.  I have to stop this!!

Pig-out pictures here.

After reading Fran’s blog post about Arya, I wasn’t able to resist and ended up craving for Arya Persian Restaurant.  I’ve been contemplating about it the whole afternoon.  I asked my friend if we could just eat at Arya instead of our previously agreed upon restaurant to visit.

It was not my 1st time to eat at Arya’s.  I loved their beef koobideh a lot.  That was what I  intended to order! 😛

Here are what we ordered:

  • Arya Yogurt Smoothie (Php 95)
4072233120_63ce9c92fa

I’m not really fond of yogurt so obviously this was not my order 😛  My friend said the drink had some after taste.  Anyway, I took a sip and I felt it was a bit sweet & sour.  I think yogurt lovers will like this.  Guess I don’t have the right to judge this drink as I’m not a yogurt lover.

  • Tamarind Smoothie (Php 95)
4072232632_7bc5b22067

I love love love tamarind especially the individually-wrapped thailand tamarind!  This however was a drink.  Wow!  It had quite a strong taste!  I must say this is a good one though I don’t think I would drink any more of it.  One glass was enough for a day.

  • Basket of Bread (Php 70)
4071472841_922106ed5c

A mix of Barbary & Pita bread.

  • Shahi Hummus (Php 235)
4071471957_8497f41edd

This was a combination of Shish (Beef) & dip!  You can choose from 2 dips: Hummus or Motabal.  Hummus is Chick peas while Motabal is eggplant dip.  The one shown above was a Hummus.  Best to order bread to go with it.

  • Beef Koobideh (Php 355 + Php 20)
4072235652_e2e60d8306

Last but not the least, my favoriteee (wait for it…..) Beef Koobideh!!!! :D:D:D
Skewers of ground beef seasoned w/ spices & onion served with either basmati rice, jasmine rice or persian bread.  If you choose rice, you’ll need to pay extra Php20.
The taste was just superb!  This is such a comfort food!  No words could ever explain how delicious it was! hayyy! yummy!

Before I forget, the sauce that would be best for this dish is smashed tomato seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic sauce & hot sauce.  I asked the server to help me prepare it.  Here is a video of it:

Their prices aren’t cheap.  A person will have to spend around 400-500 per meal.  But believe me, it would be worth it!  The food is just delicious!!!  I was able to forget all the stress because of the good food 🙂

Service was superb as well.  The owner was there to entertain the customers as well.  He just briefly said hi to us coz he was talking to the foreigner guests so I wasn’t able to ask him anything.  I didn’t mind.  I was too busy eating my yummy order anyway 😛

More yummy pics here.

Honestly, as I type this post, I still feel bloated! hahhaha that’s how full I am! 😀

My mom wanted to show me the cheap movie house in Taipei.  Before we went for a visit, we satisfied our stomach first :P:P  Mom said that there was a restaurant nearby w/c served super delicious food.  So we went there.

The first thing I noticed was that the people there were ssooooo accommodating.  The owners were taking care of his customers himself.  He kept asking us how the food was, if we want anything else, etc. etc.  Service was just superb!

We ordered the ff.:

  • Vegetable (80NT)
3941090370_691838527e

I just love vegetable.  I especially love the ones that are cooked in garlic with not much sauce.  This dish we ordered was just perfect!

  • Mapo Tofu (100NT)
3940314277_34c1982642

Tofu is my ultimate favorite food (see last post)!  I’d still enjoy it whatever way it was cooked.  This restaurant’s mapo tofu is yummy!  The chili sauce, servings of tofu, pepper and other spices were done evenly.

  • Steamed Fish (180NT)
3941092250_3cffd240a7

I don’t know what they put on top but it was just soooo good!  The fish still had bones so I had to spend some time removing them before I could truly enjoy the dish.  It was fresh and I really loved the crunchy thingy on top 😛

  • Rice (10NT)
3941091186_bee2a95bc7

10NT per person 🙂

  • Soup (Free)
3941095620_d7dab40b88

Free soup for all guests plus complimentary tea as well.

From all the restaurants I’ve tried during my Taipei trip, this is definitely the most delicious & most affordable.  I tried those very expensive restaurants but it doesn’t compare to this.  Super duper yummy to the max and super cheap if I may say.

Look at how happy I was at that time 😛
