Giving Help to Sitio Maislap
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 29, 2009
My time at Sitio Maislap is one of the most heartwarming experiences. Seeing my friend and pastors giving time to help out the people in need and knowing friends & former colleagues shelling out money to give out to the poor is just touching.
Sitio Maislap, Baranggay San Isidro is located at Montalban Rizal. Shailoh Church, Rock Church together with the help of my former colleague Agnes organized this charity event yesterday. We were able to reach out to 50 families with over 70 children.

The day started with 4 very young kids sharing the word of God with 80 other kids. Mario, Paula, Verna and Charisse were there spending their time teaching the kids about how to be good little angels. They base their teachings on a book called, “Magagandang Katangian – Aking Tutularan”.
I was just so impressed and touched by them even though they are still in school themselves. They already know how to give back to the community. I’m sure their parents are proud of them.

We arrived at around lunchtime. So we started to provide lunch to the families & kids. It’s sad that there are so many poor families in our country. Seeing them so happy with the food we prepared is just humbling. Most of them had already lost their homes due to the Typhoon Ondoy flood. Most of them only earn Php100 a day from garbage collection.

Our next activity was sharing of God’s word. The pastors divided the adults into groups and each of them shared the word of God like what Christians usually do during a bible study group meeting.

While the grown-ups were doing their bible study, I spent my time talking with the cute kids! They love taking pictures hahahah! They kept asking me if I could take picture of them & there were just too enthusiastic when I was already holding my camera to take pictures of them. Here is a picture of me with the adorable kids of Sitio Maislap, Barangay San Isidro:

Lastly, we gave out the relief goods to the families there. The pastor concluded the event by prayer. This is really such a heartwarming event, I’m just touched by how good-hearted some people are & in spite of saddening condition of our government. It gives me hope that there are Filipinos out there doing these things to help out fellow filipinos.

Here is the group of volunteers who took time out and made this event a success:

Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe

——————–
Last Wednesday, I was able to catch up with a super long-lost friend. I was too hungry as I just finished my usual wednesday work-related conference calls. It was late and since there were too many cars along Tomas Morato Street in Quezon City, we decided to meet up at Wheatberry along Scout Castor Street.
I’ve been there before but only tried out their desserts then. I liked their desserts so I was a bit excited to find out if their meals were good as well.
Wheatberry didn’t disappoint. I loved their food! I’ll definitely go back to try out their other dishes 😀
Here are what we ordered:
- Melon Shake (Php 85)
Looking at the shake’s color, I couldn’t believe that it was melon shake. I came late so this was already ordered by my friend. I said it definitely was either lemon or apple shake. Apparently, it really was melon shake! hahahaha.
- Grape Shake (Php 85)
Of all the fruit shakes, I can say that grape shake has always been my choice. Whether it’s red grape or white grape, I just love it! I always order this every chance I get.
- Poached Fish Fillet (Php 190)
I was definitely impressed & pleasantly surprised. This fish was served with sesame oil, soy sauce, leeks & mushroom. The serving was just generous and it tasted soooo good! 2 people can share this dish but I was able to finish it myself! That was how good it was. Healthy & Yummy! This dish is served with Plain Rice.
- Brownies (Php 38)
- Cupcake (Php 40)
As I’ve mentioned, I already know Wheatberry have delicious desserts. Cakes. Cupcakes. Creampuffs. Brownies. Heaven totally!
- Chocopeanut Creampuff (Php 40)
- Fruit Torte (Php 700)
This cake looked so yummy and I couldn’t help but stare. Later on, I just took a picture!
Good food and great customer service is just an awesome combination! Thankfully Wheatberry has both. Kudos to the operations manager for having such great staff and not only that, they serve good food as well.

New Moon was Eye Candy
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 27, 2009

I was lucky enough to catch the premiere of New Moon by Wrangler last week. Thanks to Jonel for giving me his extra ticket. I’m glad I was one of many who got to watch the movie before it opened in theaters nationwide.
What can I say? The movie was TOTALLY eye candy. Jacob’s overly toned abs & body overshadowed the story, literally! He was just too sexy to watch. Almost all the girls cheered when Jacob came out without any shirt on. To be honest, my eyes were glued on the screen as well. He was just yummy! hahahaha!
Edward on the other hand, really looked like a vampire. His make up was too obvious and too white. I could even hear people joking that Edward was wearing the same lipstick as Bella. He just looked too pathetic in the movie as well.
I’m team Jacob definitely, just because he’s so manly and sexy! So which team are you on? Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Sorry too carried away by Jacob’s awesome body! 😛 Anyway, the story evolved between the love of 2 guys with Bella. Edward’s family thew a birthday party for Bella. There, Bella accidentally got paper cut and she almost got killed by Edward’s brother. Because of this, Edward decided to break up with her to protect her. He then left with the rest of his adopted family.
Bella was heartbroken and found comfort through Jacob. Apparently, Jacob is a werewolf & they’re enemies of vampires. There was even a treaty between werewolves & Edward’s family that they will not attack each other as long as Edward’s family never bites a human. But Bella was determined to be transformed into a vampire so she could be with Edward right? What will happen then? I’ll let you find out yourself.
The premiere night was star-studded. I think more than half of the theater was occupied by models. Obviously, since it was sponsored by wrangler. Everyone was wearing Wrangler apparel. I, however, was wearing a Wrangler-inspired outfit! Here we are goofing at the Wrangler picture area.

By the way, my rating for New Moon? 4 out of 5 stars (mainly because of Jacob!).

Roch’s Body Fat is at 34.5%
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 26, 2009
Our office launched a challenge for its employees called the FQ challenge. This is aimed to give us a better work-life balance. Ofcourse, It is an exciting way for us to be more determined and also a great way to inspire us to aim for better fitness quotient.
Last week was our weigh-in for baseline measurements. I was totally shocked and became a bit (okay, really very!) worried about my result. Would you believe my body fat is 34.5%????!?

That just means that my body is composed of 34.5% fat! It just proves that I’m overweight or obese!! Wow! Am I really that fat? I may not look fat but having that big fat percentage is a signal that I should start working on my health as it shows that I’m not healthy with the rate I’m going.
I made a bit of research and found out that body fat are dependent of age & gender. It also depends on how we live our life. Some people do exercise regularly that result to better health. Here is a table developed for ideal body fat percentages:

Our health team used Omron Body Fat monitor to check our measurements. We just have to hold it with our hands stressed for a few seconds then we’ll be able to see the ff.:
- Body Fat Measure
- BMI
- Body Type
- BMR

The other usual checking was done as well. Weight, height measurement, age & gender. I don’t know what my FQ (fitness quotient) is as our HR team will need to compute it for everyone. I guess we’ll be able to view our result very soon.

With that in mind, I vow to already start one of my new year’s resolution — to be better fit. Things that I’m planning to do are:
- Jog at least 5k every saturday & sunday mornings.
- limit cravings for comfort food like Wendy’s Iced Tea & KFC Hot & Crispy Chicken.
- Eat healthy: more fruits, less junk food.
- learn to swim. Take lessons within 2010.
- I also learned that we need to exercise at least 30minutes a day. That I have to think what to do. I’m thinking to do those video workouts in my room whenever I wake up or jog around the village every morning.
So you should expect more fitness-related posts in HeaRty’s Haven. Join me in my journey to better health! 🙂

Bedtime Discoveries by Johnson’s Baby
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 26, 2009

Last week, I got invited to an event that I thought was a product launch. When I arrived at the venue, I got the shock of my life that it was actually a mommy event!!! I was like, what am I doing here? I’m single & no baby hahahaha!
Honestly, this is one of the most informative & most organized event that I have attended. This is very crucial for mommies. I learned a lot from it even though I don’t think it’s applicable to me. As information is so much useful, I’ll just share with you what I learned. 🙂
The event was hosted by Tintin Bersola & the speakers were Johnson & Johnson executives & Doctor Rivera. They shared with us how important sleep is for infants. We were presented with theories of sleep. Things like stages of sleep, wake/sleep pattern development, functions of sleep, sleep evaluation & sleep problems in babies.

What better way to educate us than to provide a demo right? They did just that and it was truly a learning experience especially for mommy bloggers who attended the event. Let me share with you Johnson’s Baby Bedtime Routine. This is a clinically proven technique that can result to better sleep for babies.
There are 3 steps that mommies should follow to promote better sleep of their baby:
- A Warm Bath
- Massage
- Some Quiet Time
Johnson & Johnson has a product line which is best suited for the bedtime routine. I’m pretty sure my mom used J&J products when I was still a baby. Right now, J&J has improved their products for the mommies to have the best products for their babies’ development & care.

You can also go to this site and take the sleep profiler to find out if your baby is getting the most out of her/his sleep. 🙂
Check out the pictures from the event here.
