Shakey’s – Good Food, Bad Service?

——————–
In a span of 1 week, we visited Shakey’s twice.   Mainly because the food is just too good but unfortunately both visits were really a horrible service experience.  On our 1st visit, which was at the Makati avenue branch, the ff. mishaps happened:

  • we were given the wrong variant of pizza
  • we were given the wrong chicken parts TWICE
  • didn’t refill promptly our bottomless drinks

On our 2nd visit, which was at the Newport branch, it was even worse.  When we entered the place, we asked for a booth, but unfortunately it was still not cleaned and full of dirty dishes.  We waited for the table to get cleared for 10 minutes, and I had to ask them three times before they actually started clearing the table itself.

During that time, we weren’t asked for any of our orders or even what we wanted to drink, nor did anyone even bother to look our way.  When they finally saw that we were waiting for so long, they finally cleared the table, but not before some new customers came,  and they offered the table to them knowing that we’ve been waiting for more than 10 minutes already.  I called them out on that, telling them that it was our table they were offering to the other customers.  To make things worse, when we got to the table, they didn’t even bother to clean it!  They just cleared the plates & stuff.  So, the booths were still dirty, the table was still dirty, and a used newspaper was still left on the seat.

When we sat, again nobody bothered to get our orders.  We had to call out the server again to take our order.

Another thing, was that I asked for the wifi password but they gave us the wrong password TWICE!  Then when I tried to ask another server, she just said she didn’t know what it was and then left.  I had to call her out and ask her to ask from her colleagues.  Geez!  What is Shakey’s doing?  No training for their staff?!?!?!

The customer that entered the restaurant 15 minutes after us were seated promptly, their orders taken before ours & order was provided earlier too!

They also delivered the food first without drinks.  And when they delivered the drinks, there were about 2 pieces of ice!!!  I had to request for more ice.  It was just obnoxious!  It’s supposed to be iced tea!  We were trying to be cool but deep inside, I was already composing this blog article in my mind.

Okay, enough of the rant.  Yes, the service was really bad but the food was too good.  How ironic is that?  With that kind of service, we should already boycott the establishment.  The food is just too good that we can’t give it up..  So I’m almost positive, I’ll still go back to eat Shakey’s delicious food.  But boy, I’ll be expecting another round of bad service so I have to psyche myself up so it doesnt affect my mood when I dine in at Shakey’s.

On our 1st visit we ordered the ff.:

  • Basket of Mojos (Php 202)
basket of mojos shakeys

Shakey’s is nothing without Mojos.  Mojos are fried potatoes cooked Shakey’s style.  It’s just the best potato snack ever!  Can’t get enough of it!

  • Large Thin-Crust Pizza (Php 298)
shakeys pizza

Brick-oven backed pizza… we ordered the large one and glad that we can choose 2 flavors in 1 order.  We chose the pepperoni crunch & ultimate cheese n garlic (if you noticed, they forgot to put the crunch in the pepperoni crunch).

  • Buddy Pack Chick ‘n’ Chips (Php 359)
5 pcs chick n chips shakeys

Flavorful chicken by Shakey’s served with a couple of Mojos.  Too bad, we can’t choose just the thigh part of the chicken.  Seems like they’re following KFC’s lead that we can’t order all thigh parts.

  • Lemonade (Php 471)/ House Blend Iced Tea (Php 76)
drinks shakeys

We can order the drinks by glass (lemonade- Php 47, iced tea- Php 60), bottomless or pitcher (lemonade- Php 126, iced tea- Php 136).  We opted for the bottomless one.

On our 2nd visit we ordered the Family Meal Deal 1 (Php 549).  The meal is good for 3-4 persons but we ordered it anyway even though it was just the 2 of us.  Guess what?  We were still able to finish everything.  That is how much we love Shakey’s food.  I really really hope they work on their customer service though, because the dining experience is as important as the food.

The meal includes the ff.:

  • Solo Pack Chick ‘n’ Chips
3 pieces chick n chips shakeys

  • Large Thin Crust Manager’s Choice
manager's pizza shakeys

11-inches pizza that is good for 3-4 persons.  Shakey’s thin-crusted pizza is really the best out there.  I’m not fond of pizza but I’m willing to eat Shakey’s pizza anytime.

  • 1 Pitcher of House-Blend Iced Tea
iced tea pitcher shakeys

See the volume of ice in the cups?  We had to request for more ice.  Their house-blended iced tea was good.

Shakey’s food & marketing are already perfect.  I hope they do something about their service.  I’m still craving for Shakey’s food, must resist!

Babe, I Love You Movie Review

Babe I Love You

After being so disappointed with Miss You Like Crazy, here I am truly loving Babe, I Love You.  Thanks Star Cinema for the save!

The story is about a guy and girl who are from different worlds, one is educated and the other is not.  Will a relationship like that work out?  Babe, I Love You was unpredictable and it’s truly rare with movies nowadays.  Very nice twist in the movie, never even thought that there would be that kind of angle in the story.

The stars Anne Curtis & Sam Milby truly have this genuine chemistry that you can see in the movie.  Suffice to say, Anne Curtis is one of my favorite filipino actresses and I wouldn’t miss seeing any of her movies (especially with the guy she loves in real life :P).

Great cast, great story, great acting… what can I say?  You should watch it!  It’s a very cute movie with less kissing scenes, just good story.  I loved it!

Just to give you an overview, Sam plays a professor who is focused on becoming assistant dean.  However successful he has become, his reckless past still haunts him as his mother still blames him for the death of his father.

Anne plays a promo girl who met Sam’s character in a bar where she instantly fell in love.  The series of events that happened next was too cute, romantic & touching as they become close, they struggle to fight against outside factors such as what others might think about their relationship since they come from different worlds.

A big twist near the end also threatens to end their relationship.  I shed quite a few tears as there were some scenes that I was able to relate to.  I think the overall question that is asked in this movie is if you are willing to accept the person you love for who they are, including their past mistakes as well.  It is also about reminding us that relationships is not without struggles and problems too, but that you have to also work on them.

Here’s the trailer:

I suggest you watch this movie!  It’s as good as Paano na Kaya but the story is different.  I actually think it’s cuter as the drama is less strong 🙂

My verdict for Babe, I Love You: 4 out of 5 stars.

Clash of the Titans Movie Review

clash-of-the-titans-2010-20091211065924947_640w

Last night, we went to Eastwood Mall to catch the screening of Clash of the Titans.  We were at the Ultra 7 cinema so I was able to like sleep for a few minutes in some of the scenes.  Well, it was because the seat was just too comfortable hehehe 😛

The movie was good!  It was very entertaining, action-packed & story was very rich.  We wanted to watch it in 3D but got some feedback that we might feel a bit dizzy, and wouldn’t be able to focus on the story.  Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington whom I remembered to be the lead of Avatar (which I loved btw).

The story is about The Greek Gods & the people of Argos, as well as Perseus (Sam’s character) as a demi-god (son of a god & a mortal) who was raised as a fisherman by his human family.  If you are familiar with Greek Mythology, then the Gods should be familiar to you.  The start of the movie does a great job actually in summarizing as to how Zeus became the supreme ruler and came to rule the heavens, while his two brothers came to rule minor areas — Poseidon (ruler of the seas) and Hades (ruler of the underworld).

The summary in the beginning lays out the plot as Hades plans to take over as supreme ruler and overthrow Zeus in the process.  A detail that is important to note is that Zeus created humans, and it is through the prayers of men that The Gods draw their strength.  Hades, on the other hand feeds on the fear and pain of men.

And so, it is when The kingdom of Argos declares war with the Gods, deprives them of their very own prayers, that Zeus becomes disappointed, and even agrees to be helped by his brother Hades.  Thus, Hades attacks the kingdom of Argos and gives them until the upcoming solar eclipse to either sacrifice their beautiful princess or he will release his very own monster, The Kraken, upon them.

Perseus agrees to help save Argos and its inhabitants for the sole reason that it was Hades who killed his family.

Perseus upon knowing that he is a demi-god still has great hatred for The Gods because it was one of them, Hades, that killed his human family.  Perseus connects more with the human side of himself and in the movie the internal struggle within himself is very much evident.  Thus, in many scenes, we have Perseus trying to save humanity and seek revenge against Hades, all the while doing so as a human without the help of The Gods, or even his own father, Zeus.

Perseus would eventually help the kingdom of Argos fight Hades and then save the princess in the process.

The story was pretty simple and epic but the way the scenes are made were superb.  You will not feel bored and you won’t feel disappointed either.  You will definitely come out of this movie happy and glad to have watched it.  My favorite character though in the movie was “Lo” (played by Gemma Arterton), who plays Perseus’ love interest.  She’s just too pretty, I was too mesmerized by her beauty 😛

My rating for Clash of the Titans: 4 out of 5 stars.

A must-watch 🙂

When in Rome Movie Review

when_in_rome_ver2

This was a cute movie!  Sometimes, we watch a movie because the lead stars are your favorite.  Even  without knowing that my celebrity crush Josh Duhamel was in the movie, I still watched it.  When my friends and I had lunch at CPK, a friend told us that When in Rome was pretty cool.  So we decided to just watch When in Rome after our lunch that day.

I loved the movie!  It was pretty cool indeed.  Honestly, the story was pretty simple, not even realistic but very light and romantic!  Sometimes, we don’t really need to have such a complicated or dramatic story to make a good movie.

A huge bonus was because my ultimate celebrity crush is in the movie!  I was like, “Hey, that’s Josh Duhamel!”  Made my movie experience wayyy more complete 😛  Well, ofcourse I was with someone special too so it was kinda perfect 😛

When in Rome is a romantic movie that talks about Beth who is busy with her career and who was a bit frustrated with love.  Her sister getting married to a man she just met a couple of weeks didn’t help either.  She travelled to Rome to attend the wedding and there she met the handsome man named Nick (Josh’s character).

Well, at that wedding, she went out to a wishing fountain and picked up 4 coins.  According to legend, if you take the coin from the fountain, you either return the coin to the fountain or give the coin back to the owner.  Or else, the person who tossed the coin into the fountain will fall in love with you.  You wouldn’t want to be courted for the sake of a legend right?  Any girl would love to be pursued coz they are truly loved..

The 4 guys who owned the coins that Beth took are the ff.:

  • Lance – a street magician
  • Gale – a self-absorbed guy
  • Anthony – an Italian artist wannabe
  • Al Russo – a sausage magnate

When Beth’s sister’s husband explained what Beth did, Beth thought that Nick was one of the owners of the coin.  So when true love found her, she thought it wasn’t true…

Fast forward, I guess you pretty much know what happened next.  When in Rome had a happy ending though.  It was a feel-good movie.. 🙂

Here’s the trailer:

I suggest you get the DVD when it comes out.

My verdict for When in Rome: 4 out of 5 stars.

Alice in Wonderland Movie Review

Alice in Wonderland

I was able to catch Alice in Wonderland the other week.  I watched it at Eastwood Mall’s Ultra 7 Cinema. I forgot that the movie was supposed to be good in 3D, but what the heck, reclining seats w/ unlimited popcorn & drinks?  No complaints here 😀

I somehow thought that the movie was similar to the other movie that Johnny Depp & Helen Bonham Carter made (i.e., Sweeney Todd).  Well, it was not.  Though I assumed both actors are being typecast for those kinds of movies.

The story is about Alice who always had haunting and recurring dreams.  The thing is that the dreams are the same each time, and it is of this fantasy world.  We later find out that this was not a dream at all but a memory of Alice when she was a kid.

This updated movie, is in fact a continuation of the timeless classic.  As this movie has fast forwarded to when Alice is already 19 years of age.

One time, she attended a party which ended up to be the day when she was going to be proposed to by a guy named Hamish.  During the arranged party and asking of hand in marriage, with all eyes on her and Hamish in the act of proposing, she cuts the ceremony short to figure out her answer to Hasmish’s proposal, but the real reason was so that she could follow a rabbit that she had kept seeing earlier that day.   And so she proceeds to chase the rabbit and ends up falling into a hole.

She landed in wonderland (just like in her dreams).  Alice then met several interesting characters in the place namely:

  • Nivens McTwisp (the White Rabbit)
  • Mallymkun (the Dormouse)
  • Uilleam (the Dodo)
  • Tweedledum and Tweedledee
  • Absolem (the Caterpillar)
  • Cheshire Cat
  • March Hare
  • Dormouse
  • AND ofcourse, the Mad Hatter himself (portrayed by Johnny Depp)

Apparently, the group has been waiting for Alice to come & save them from the Red Queen.  They expected Alice to defeat the Red Queen’s best warrior, Jabberwocky, which is a big dragon.  The Red Queen has conquered wonderland at that time by stealing the crown from the White Queen.

The Mad Hatter & the other entourage was captured by the Red Queen as well.  Alice with the help of Bayard, a dog, entered the Red Queen’s castle to save her friends.  Alice was able to successfully do that and to also get the sword to defeat jobberwocky as well.  She would later get to meet the White Queen and present the sword.

On that big day, both Red & White Queens gathered on the battlefield to decide the fate of wonderland.  The Red Queen with the Jabberwocky as her champion while the White Queen with Alice as her champion.  Guess who won? Of course, the White Queen & Alice.

The movie is pleasing to the eyes & very entertaining.  The story wasn’t that strong but worth the watch still.  The actors really did well and I’m sure the kids who watched this movie most probably loved it!  Maybe best if watched in 3D.  If you haven’t been able to watch Alice in Wonderland, then get it in DVD.

Here’s the trailer:

My verdict for Alice in Wonderland: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
