That’s a great line, isn’t it? I just wish I could join! I’ve been wanting to run since 2008, I tried joining our beginner’s running challenge for the past 3 years but wasn’t successful. The 1st year, I ended up getting lazy in the latter part. The 2nd year, ended up stopping in the latter part of the year too. This year, I was so determined to run consistently but I got into an accident. The one & only run that I was able to participate was the Nike 10k Human Race. I wish I could do more & I hope the trail running by The North Face will be one. The North Face 100 Trail Running will be on April 24-25, 2010. Experienced runners, trail runners, mountain climbers & those who are seeking adventure will find everything they hope for as tnf 100 traverses unexplored trails of Camp John Hay, the PMA grounds, Mt. Sto.Tomas and Tuba with a fitting finish in the iconic Burnham Park. That’s basically from Baguio to Benguet! I can already think of a lot of colleagues who are up for the challenge! I’m sure they will join this trail run!
There are 4 categories for the Philippine Trail Running:
11k
22k
50k solo
100k solo
Are you game? I bet you are you are! The North Face 100 guarantees to be the longest, most thrilling test of your endurance. Truly exciting, isn’t it? I suggest you don’t waste time and go to North Face branches or go check the site out for details on how to join. I wish I could, but my right foot has 2 bone fractures huhuhu :'(
I put up HeaRty’s Haven because I need a form of release. I wanted to have a hobby to keep my mind off work & to have a work-life balance. I write about anything & everything as long as I experience it or have interest in it. Since I’m the kind of person who loves to try out a lot of things, you can probably see anything under the sun in HeaRty’s Haven.

Last weekend, I attended the most entertaining yet informative training. The B.E.S.T. workshop was organized by BizWiz Resources and it was about entrepreneurship. B.E.S.T. stands for Basic Entrepreneur Skills Training.
Quoting from their vision: “We shall be the most magical, enjoyable and dynamic source of entrepreneurial learning for Filipinos; helping to demystify entrepreneurship in order to create true WIZARDS of business, who will craft their own magical success stories.â€
I believe they did exactly what they promised/advertised.
If you’re looking for ideas as to what business go into or how you can put up a business, then you won’t find it in B.E.S.T. workshop. But if you want to have the right mindset to be a successful entrepreneur then B.E.S.T. workshop is for you.
This training was just fun, fun & fun! And we all learned a lot! Seems like experiential training is really the way to go. The usual training is just teachers presenting powerpoint slides or giving lectures. B.E.S.T. workshop however was full of activities that could show us how we react to things. In the end, through that experience, we were taught lessons on teamwork, path fulfillment, goal orientation, life balance, perseverance & some other entrepreneural skills.
Where can you find instructors performing like this?
And participants cheering like this?
My ultimate favorite video however was taken during one of the 1st day activities:
It’s all in B.E.S.T. workshopfriends! hehehe 🙂 There was never a dull moment during those 2 days. I also like the theme wizard too! See the names of the activities we’ve done:
Wizard Search
Bag of Mystery
Manifest Destiny
Vision Quest
Wizard Qualification Exam
FRAP
Mystical Hat of Plenty
Witch Hunt
Sorcerer’s Alley
King MiDAS Touch
Wizard Idol
Mystique
Meet the Wizards
Kudos to the BizWiz Resources team: Jeff, JP, Gwen, Boom & Jason. Well done, folks! I’ll definitely be one of those who will vouch for this training, such a great learning experience! 🙂
You can just see at the look of our faces how satisfied we are with the training.
Such an honor & great opportunity to participate in a well-made training. I do encourage you guys to take the plunge & enroll in their next session (I think the next one will be on May/June 2010). You will not regret it. I myself learned a lot about entrepreneurship. You can find information regarding the workshop on their facebook page or contact them at email address: info@bizwizresources.com.

Parking fees at our office building is pretty expensive (Php 130/day). Usually the slots are also filled up already when 9AM comes in. With that in mind, a lot of us decided to park somewhere far away in a parking lot owned by A. Venue. Parking costs just around Php40/day but disadvantage is.. we have to walk like 10minutes to reach the office. For me, I thought of it more of an advantage because:
we can save like Php90 per day for the parking fee
we can use the 10-minute walk as an exercise
I usually bring slippers as I can’t walk 10 minutes wearing high heels. However, I decided to just wear my high-heeled wedge shoes today. Since they were wedge shoes, I didn’t think it would be dangerous for the walk. Unfortunately though, I fell on the street today. I fell hard… fell on my knees with lots of people around. Noone helped me though, they just looked at me. I sat a bit on the floor for a few seconds as I felt the pain in my foot. Anyhow, I managed to get up and continued walking towards the office. This time, I walked really slow as pain really started to set in.
When I arrived at the office, the pain became unbearable such that I couldn’t walk anymore. I went straight to the clinic. Here’s what they did to help me:
Asked me to sit in a comfortable chair.
Held my feet up high
Put ice compress on the pain area
put inflammatory cream on the area
asked me to take some pain meds
put some elastic bandage on my ankle.
They also asked me to go to a hospital and have an x-ray. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really walk so I ended up just glued to my seat. The x-ray is needed to check if there are fractures. I really just hope I don’t get any. I don’t think I have the energy to drive myself to the hospital because my right ankle is the one that is injured.
The pain really gets worse as time passes by. I don’t know how long this will be. I decided to just work from home until I get well. Hopefully it does heal soon, I hate staying at home. Internet connection is really slow as well (I work more effectively at the office).
A close friend of mine asked her brother who’s also a doctor for medical advice (she’s such a sweet friend!). A great advice that I will follow while I’m nursing this sprained ankle. Here are the useful information I got (maybe this could help some of you too):
cold compress for the 1st three days and continue as long as it is swollen.
should completely rest the ankle & let ligaments heal.
take pain meds for 1st two days. Take it as needed after if pain still persists.
Learned a lot from this experience. Though I assume my friends would think that I would quit wearing high heels, well they’re wrong. I’ll still continue to wear my high heeled shoes hahaha! I’m sure though that I won’t be walking that 10-minute activity with high heels (no matter if wedge or not), I’ll just wear my friendly slippers…
Sumo Sam 2/F Rockwell Drive cor. Estrella St., Makati City, Metro Manila (02) 729-6292
——————– It was my 1st time to try out Sumo Sam. I thought I was about to try something new but was surprised when I actually saw the menu. I asked the server “Do you have the same menu as John & Yoko?”. She answered, “Yes”. I wonder why the owners did this, having the same menu with just a different name & different restaurant interiors. They can just make this another John & Yoko branch right? Weird.
Their signature short dresses for the girls are still there. I feel bad coz it seems like they have to make their female servers wear that kind of dress which I think is soo wrong. Sumo Sam is a restaurant not a girly bar.
Anyway, this time we ordered a lot of dishes hahaha! Actually more than what we can take into our stomach 😛 We could have just ordered 1 fried rice but the other dishes were all okay. So pretty satisfied still. The food was just alright, not spectacular but still okay. Here are what we ordered:
Crunchy Squid Teriyaki (Php 158)
If you go to traditional Japanese restaurants, you’d see that they serve crunchy dilis. Sumo Sam’s Crunchy Squid Teriyaki actually tasted the same. The main ingredient though is squid. Very unique, we all loved the dish!
Japanese Fried Rice (Php 178)
Just the typical Japanese fried rice. I wouldn’t recommend you to order this one. Their other fried rice are better (my recommendation? See my review on John & Yoko Wagyu rice).
Meat Fried Rice (Php 178)
This meat fried rice, I really love. It was very tasty & I think it was just enough for us 5 friends. The waitress told us that their fried rice is good for 2-3. So we also ordered the Japanese fried rice. But honestly, I think this is good for 4 people.
Chicken Teriyaki (Php 228)
This was also another good dish from Sumo Sam. I loved how they presented it. Loved how the sauce was perfect for the chicken. Loved how the chicken was cooked. If you’re a fan of Chicken Teriyaki then you should order this when you go to either Sumo Sam or John & Yoko.
Lychee & Rose (Php 148)
Don’t be fooled. This is just lychee shake with cream & red syrup. There’s no rose perse.
Gyoza Soup (Php 128)
My least favorite. Didn’t even eat the gyoza. Just tasted the soup that’s it. I felt this is just way overpriced.
Tofu Miso Soup (Php 98)
Mt. Fuji Steak (Php 368)
Sumo Sam’s Mt. Fuji Steak was a disappointment. I was actually raving about it to my friends coz I was able to try the same dish over at John & Yoko. This one that we tried last sunday? Meat was not tender, it wasn’t delicious at all.
Ika Fry (Php 208)
Great presentation! The squid ring was just okay but I think I was the one who finished this dish. The dish was placed in front of me. Can’t help but just eat that one hahaha!
California Maki Salad (Php 208)
Japanese style salad indeed. Pretty decent.
Assorted Sushi (Php 388)
Ebi Teppan (Php 368)
We got 1 piece each. It was just your normal teppan shrimps w/ Japanese sauce.
It is nice that we have so many different restaurants to choose from when we plan to eat out. I do feel though that the food is getting more expensive. I feel that Sumo Sam’s prices are a bit on the high side. Bringing down their prices like Php50 per dish is more reasonable considering the quality of their dishes.
