Finally Had My Haircut

Roch New Look

Tony & Jackey Salon

——————–
Last week, I finally did it!  After soooo many years of having long hair, I finally got up the courage to get my hair cut really SHORT!  I think the last time I had short hair was during elementary days.. which you can just imagine was quite a long time ago…

Now I always make it a point to visit the salon every 6 months.  I guess I have this urge to start anew, but my resolutions really never come to reality anyway.  The last time I had a makeover was August of last year.  It was with Tony & Jackey too.. I guess it has already become a habit since I have been going to Tony & Jackey’s salon for the past 3 years.

I always keep my friend Jo’s comment in mind when she tells me to at least take the plunge and get my hair cut short and be adventurous — I finally gave in.  I entered the salon thinking that I should cut my hair short w/c did happen because hairdresser Jacob agreed to do it for me.  I said I wanted thick bangs, so they suggested that I get a volume rebond coz I had long curly hair.

Tony & Jackey Volume Rebond

The volume rebond was quite expensive.  It cost me Php 4,000 to have volume rebond using L’Oreal product w/ a haircut.  Beauty doesn’t come cheap, right?

Not only that, the whole process took 3 long hours.  Good thing, there was wifi.  I could surf the net via my iPhone while I waited for my finished new look.

I do feel I look better with long hair.  But still, I really welcome the change.

What do you think? 😀

Bedtime Discoveries by Johnson’s Baby

4122855767_a121f783f6

Last week, I got invited to an event that I thought was a product launch.  When I arrived at the venue, I got the shock of my life that it was actually a mommy event!!!  I was like, what am I doing here?  I’m single & no baby hahahaha!

Honestly, this is one of the most informative & most organized event that I have attended.  This is very crucial for mommies.  I learned a lot from it even though I don’t think it’s applicable to me.  As information is so much useful, I’ll just share with you what I learned. 🙂

The event was hosted by Tintin Bersola & the speakers were Johnson & Johnson executives & Doctor Rivera.  They shared with us how important sleep is for infants.  We were presented with theories of sleep.  Things like stages of sleep, wake/sleep pattern development, functions of sleep, sleep evaluation & sleep problems in babies.

What better way to educate us than to provide a demo right?  They did just that and it was truly a learning experience especially for mommy bloggers who attended the event.  Let me share with you Johnson’s Baby Bedtime Routine.  This is a clinically proven technique that can result to better sleep for babies.

There are 3 steps that mommies should follow to promote better sleep of their baby:

  • A Warm Bath
This is an action to signal your baby that it’s time for bed.  Warm water coupled with gentle lather will soothe the baby.

  • Massage
A soothing, gentle massage that helps a baby relax.  This is also good for baby’s bone development.  There are 2 massages here: One is “I Love You” massage where you’ll make up the letters I, L & U by focusing on massaging the chest and stomach.  Next is the milking technique wherein you concentrate on massaging the arms and legs of the baby.

  • Some Quiet Time
This is where you spend quality time with your baby.  Activities like singing lullabye & putting powder right after diaper change to keep baby comfortable during the night.  It’s best to put powder in areas like the back, underarms & other hard to reach areas.

Johnson & Johnson has a product line which is best suited for the bedtime routine.  I’m pretty sure my mom used J&J products when I was still a baby.  Right now, J&J has improved their products for the mommies to have the best products for their babies’ development & care.

Belle de Jour 2010 Power Planner

bdj2010

It is every girl’s desire to have a Belle De Jour Planner.

So yes, I definitely want one.  For a fact, it’s very girly & also very useful.  It has tons of discount coupons from various brands which shopaholics like you would love.

Now that I’m more serious with my goals,  I would want to have a planner that I could bring along with me everyday.  I have a lot of habits that I would want to break & I also have habits that I would want to make.  Having a BDJ planner could really help me keep on track as to where I am with my goals.

Here are parts of the BDJ planner that I really like:

  • 2010 Checklist – will we able to follow or even remember our goals if we don’t list them down?  This is the most important section of the planner coz this is where we list down all our goals (small or big).
  • Habit Tracker – is extremely important for me.  I do have a lot of habits to make & break.  One that I could remember is to break my habit of buying Wendy’s Iced Tea everyday & make my habit of exercising every weekend morning.
  • Savings Tracker – another major goal of mine is to keep track of my finances and having this tracker could help me monitor my expenses.
  • Health Checklist – I’ve been having problems with my health lately.  Especially when it comes to cholesterol, headache, eyes & others.  I will need this checklist to help remind me of any appointment I need to make with a doctor.

I stumbled upon Jenny’s site & she’s giving away one BDJ planner to a lucky reader!  So here I am joining and hoping to win!

Bayong ng Kabuhayan

4018928608_c09c01f82b

Today, I was lucky to experience first-hand the project of Gawad Kalinga Sunshineville, Bayong ng Kabuhayan.

Bayong ng Kabuhayan is a livelihood program where community members create eco-trendy & stylish products such as bags & home/office accessories from doypack materials.  The project provides opportunities for its residents and has potential to grow into a permanent & profitable business.

I was able to meet to meet the people behind the project and ofcourse, the community members who are part of the program.  I was also able to see how the bags were made.

Here are the instructions they showed us on how to prepare the bag:

  1. Cut doypack sheets into strips.

    4018153755_842b99e9b6

Doypack is the packaging that ready to drink beverages use. The ones that Zest-O sent to GK Sunshineville are their overruns or rejects. Rejects include ones that were printed wrongly or the packaging isn’t acceptable for commercial use. Just to clarify, the ones Zest-O sent are new and have not been used.

  2. Fold doypack strips one by one.

Milagros showed us how to fold strips. It isn’t an easy task to do! They are paid 25 centavos per doypack strip folded.

  3. Weave the folded doypack strips.

This is the most tedious task of them all. I was able to try it out. It was fun, but I bet if you do this everyday, it won’t feel like fun anymore! hehehe! I really appreciate their materials because they are done with care and with personal touch. In a day, the manangs can make approximately 3-4 bags.

  4. Attach Handle to handweaven bags.

In this video, they showed us how they attached the handle to the bag. We were shown 2 types of handles, first the wooden one and an abaca one. The handle is attached by sewing. I bet doing this the whole will really make your fingers tired especially holding that long needle and sewing it to a hard material.

Finished bags look like these:

The bags are beautiful & affordable, promise!  They sell between Php 395 to Php 450.

They also have other products like the ones below:

In their beautiful product brochure, you’d be able to see the products on sale.

They are divided into 2 sections namely:

  • Bags – Silver Bags, Colored Bags
  • Home – Serving Trays, Placemats, Envelope cases, File Holders, Utility Boxes

I hope you do support this cause and buy the products. By purchasing, you will not only help them by sustaining the business, you will also get good quality products.
