The B.E.S.T. Workshop

21853_262109427022_585827022_3748360_4507504_n

Last weekend, I attended the most entertaining yet informative training.  The B.E.S.T. workshop was organized by BizWiz Resources and it was about entrepreneurship.  B.E.S.T. stands for Basic Entrepreneur Skills Training.

Quoting from their vision: “We shall be the most magical, enjoyable and dynamic source of entrepreneurial learning for Filipinos; helping to demystify entrepreneurship in order to create true WIZARDS of business, who will craft their own magical success stories.”

I believe they did exactly what they promised/advertised.

If you’re looking for ideas as to what business go into or how you can put up a business, then you won’t find it in B.E.S.T. workshop.  But if you want to have the right mindset to be a successful entrepreneur then B.E.S.T. workshop is for you.

This training was just fun, fun & fun!  And we all learned a lot!  Seems like experiential training is really the way to go.   The usual training is just teachers presenting powerpoint slides or giving lectures.  B.E.S.T. workshop however was full of activities that could show us how we react to things.  In the end, through that experience, we were taught lessons on teamwork, path fulfillment, goal orientation, life balance, perseverance & some other entrepreneural skills.

Where can you find instructors performing like this?

And participants cheering like this?

My ultimate favorite video however was taken during one of the 1st day activities:

It’s all in B.E.S.T. workshopfriends! hehehe 🙂  There was never a dull moment during those 2 days.  I also like the theme wizard too!  See the names of the activities we’ve done:

  • Wizard Search
  • Bag of Mystery
  • Manifest Destiny
  • Vision Quest
  • Wizard Qualification Exam
  • FRAP
  • Mystical Hat of Plenty
  • Witch Hunt
  • Sorcerer’s Alley
  • King MiDAS Touch
  • Wizard Idol
  • Mystique
  • Meet the Wizards

Kudos to the BizWiz Resources team: Jeff, JP, Gwen, Boom & Jason.  Well done, folks!  I’ll definitely be one of those who will vouch for this training, such a great learning experience! 🙂

15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

15th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

Yesterday, several colleagues and myself travelled very early in the morning so we could go to Clark, Pampanga to see the 15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.  This Fiesta has been around since 1991 and it was my first time to attend.

It was sssooooooo cool!!!  Glad I was able to wake up early to catch this.  We arrived a bit late so we weren’t able to catch the start of the hot air balloon flights but still on time to see them in the sky.

There were about 20 or so balloons that flew up in the sky, each balloon were designed so beautifully!  Each balloon had their own logo of the corresponding sponsor.

Ticket entrance was Php150.  When we arrived at the site, the line was very long.  No joke.  Most of my colleagues decided not to enter anymore and just watch the balloons outside.

If you want to see how long the line really was, here go see the picture below:

Aside from the astounding exhibition of balloons and of course the sponsors’ booth, there were a lot of food booths, and there were kite flying, paragliding, airplane models, army cars, human status and even ibun festival!   There were just too many things to do that some people even stayed in Clark overnight to see all the activities at the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. 🙂

The highlight for us though was the balloon ride!!  Balloon ride cost at least $150 and is on a first come, first serve basis.  There were some promos available at both Marquee Mall & Caltex sites.  I only checked out Marquee Mall’s booth.  There you just have to present Php1,000 worth of receipts from the mall and you get a free balloon ride.

It was total coolness that I can ride a hot air balloon myself!

So what does this hot air balloon made of?  It uses material that is similar to a parachute and is between 60,000 to 140,000 cubic feet.  Four people can fit in the basket.  It is important to note that for safety reasons, balloonists prefer that the winds to be less than 10 miles per hour, and clouds at least 2,000 feet about the ground.  Don’t understand what I’m talking about?  Well just go and take a look at the video! 🙂

What an experience!  This is definitely unforgettable!!!  We enjoyed our stay at 15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta!  Next up, Marquee mall to have our lunch after such an enjoyable morning.

A Visit to Gawad Kalinga Sunshineville

4018173343_14e7fd6709

Nuffnang invited us to visit GK Sunshineville.  It is a village situated in Las Pinas.

This neighborhood came out as a result of some people’s good intention to uplift the lives of poor families all over the Philippines.

Gawad Kalinga is a foundation that started 1995 with the purpose of “advancing & upholding an integrated, holistic and sustainable community development program, especially in the depressed areas, addressing shelter, livelihood, education and health issues in the spirit of nation building, to strengthen the development and improvement of human and spiritual formation of couples and their children and to foster cooperation with others in the pursuit and realization of the objectives for which GK has been established.”

Take this neighborhood for example that the foundation is helping out.  The people who are now living there used to live in the squatter’s area.

Because of this project, these people now can live comfortably in houses the foundation built.  The houses are built for free, however, people have to pay for the lot (Php 500 per month).

Aside from providing them better shelter, the foundation with the help of some corporations, organized a livelihood program that provide additional income to residents in the community as well as sustaining their livelihood.
