Get Gloo’d with Friends

I stumbled upon Globe Broadband‘s site today and I noticed that they have a new online tool.  The tool is called Gloo.  It is an online scrapbook, collaboration website which allows users to doodle and write things on a canvas in real time.

The image above is my Gloo page hahaha!  Pardon my weak artistic skills but you get the gist of what Gloo is about right?

Gloo is basically a place where you can collaborate with your friends & family.  It is a cute & fun way to share stuff like images, text, videos, to do lists & messages.  What’s best about it is that they are all done in real-time!

You can invite your friends to chat with you , doodle, share notes & watch movies together.  Amazing how technology is really changing our lives these days, right?  Very impressive!

You can achieve a lot if you’re using Gloo.  Some examples on ways you can use Gloo are the ff.:

  • Online Travel Scrapbook – You can put photos, captions, cute messages & videos.  You can collaborate with fellow travellers on the places you’ve been and you can enjoy watching it being edited real-time and relive the experience! 🙂
  • TV show or Celebrity Page – Are you a fan of a TV show and did you want to share your thoughts with the world?  You can create your own TV show or celebrity page and collaborate with other fans around the world.
  • Homework or Projects – This is an excellent way to share stuff and help out on school work and even work projects.  You don’t need to be physically together to work out your commitments.  Gloo can be your ultimate collaboration tool for this purpose.
  • Integration with your Mobile Phones – This is cool!  Once you have your Gloo space, you can send messages to your friends’ mobile phones.  What’s more?  You can even send any picture inside Gloo space and send it via MMS!

As for me, I collaborated with my iPhonePinas team using Gloo.  We conceptualized on the logo for our new site and also shared what needs to be done next.  Check bottom part of the screenshot.  Those are the people behind iPhonepinas.com 🙂  Gloo is still in beta, but so far so good.

I’m still playing around with Gloo but I can’t wait to share the good news with you! 🙂  Inquire about Gloo on Globe Broadband’s website to know more.

Happy 5th Birthday Mozilla Firefox!

To celebrate five years of Mozilla Firefox, the Mozilla Philippines Community, Globe Telecom & AIM organized an event last November 21.  I had the pleasure to be part of it.

I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox for quite some time.  I really love that we have an alterantive browser to Microsoft Internet Exploer because I really dislike using IE.  One thing I love most about Firefox is that it is customizable.  I love love love the add-ons!  There are hundreds of it that we can adjust to our own style and liking.

I actually was surprised to learn that there is an active community of Mozilla Firefox users in the Philippines.  They even have campus reps!

Campus Reps are volunteers from different schools who help spread the existence of Firefox in the Philippines.  Well, who else are the ones active online but the young right?

The event organizer shared with us the history of Mozilla Firefox and how it stands in the online market.  Would you believe that a few years back, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 had 96% of the browser market share?  Nine out of ten people were using Internet Explorer!

Here are some more trivia I learned from the event:

  • Philippines is 4th country in the world with most number of Firefox users
  • There was 20% increase of Firefox users in the last 5 months
  • There are about 1.5 million Firefox users in the Philippines today
  • Firefox has 25% share on global browser space
  • Firefox has 50% share in the Philippines!
  • Mozilla Firefox has 75 different languages available

Globe Telecom also shared with us that Firefox finally has an add-on for Globe Telecom.  We can now send text from our Firefox browser!  Rates still apply though (Php1.00 per text).  ðŸ™‚

I kinda liked how the logo evolved.  It actually started as phoenix then firebird then finally, firefox.  Here is a video showing how Firefox can light our world 😛  Sorry guys for the poor recording, my hand was kinda tired of holding the camera in a stationary position.

Pictures from the event can be found here.
