iBlog5: The 5th Philippine Blogging Summit

Malcolm Theater, U.P. College of Law, Diliman, Quezon City
May 9, 2009, 9-5PM

——————–
This is the 1st ever Blogging Summit I attended and I must say that it is truly enlightening for me. I’ve been blogging for quite some time but I’m doing it the wrong way thus my site traffic isn’t as impressive as of the other bloggers. Attending the sessions really enlightened me so much that I had this renewed enthusiasm about blogging… passionate already but is becoming more passionate…

I was a bit pissed off at first because wifi internet connection suck big time and to make matters worse, there were no signals on both my globe and sun cellular phones! Eventually, I think it is a blessing because if I had ways to communicate to the outside world, I wouldn’t have listened much to the talks in the summit and wouldn’t be able to learn anything. So… I’m happy, ecstatic even!

Sharing with you the agenda of the event:

  • 9:00 – 9:15 Registration, National Anthem, Invocation, Welcome Remarks
  • 9:20 – 9:40 Blogging 101 (Micaela Rodriguez & AJ Matela)
  • 9:45 – 10:05 Photo Blogging (Faith Salazar & Fritz Tentativa)
  • 10:10 – 10:25 Break
  • 10:30 – 10:50 Video Blogging (Azrael Coladilla & Kring Elenzano)
  • 10:55 – 11:15 Mobile Blogging 101 (Edwin “Ka Edong” Soriano)
  • 11:20 – 11:40 Do’s & Dont’s of Blogging (Benj Espina & Juned Sonido)
  • 12:10 – 1:00 Lunch Break
  • 1:00 – 1:20 Legal Issues in Blogging (Atty. JJ Disini)
  • 1:30 – 2:15 Preparing Bloggers for 2010 Elections (Atty. James Jimenez), Bloggers Election Handbook Project (Janette Toral)
  • 2:30 – 3:30 Blog Marketing & Advertising Experiences in the Philippines (Mannix Pabalan, Lazzlo Lim, Kristine Mandigma, Jayvee Fernandez & Eric Ramirez)
  • 4:00 – 4:15 Break
  • 4:15 – 4:45 Blogging to the Next Level (Fitz Villafuerte & Anton Diaz)
  • 4:45 Raffle & Group Picture Taking

There were several good speakers… but my favorite presentation is from Fitz Villafuerte… He discussed to us “Top 5 Tips that Probloggers will usually NOT tell you about Making Money Online“. He was very articulate, the presentation is simple enough for everybody to understand…. I will not share with you the top 5 tips coz as the title says, probloggers will usually NOT tell you about it hehehehehe so pardon me if I can’t share the information, besides if you’re a blogger, you should be attending iblog!

Anyhow, this is truly a great learning experience… aside from the whole day long information overload hehehe. I was also able to mingle with the bloggers and also meet some bloggers for the 1st time. It was also nice to see Anton who I used to work with when he was still in P&G. His presentation about the different stages of blogging is a good one! Aha, now I know what my goal is… to be a… MAVEN!

I also realized there are different types of blogging, some just blog photos, some just blog about their day-to-day using only words, while some just blog via videos. I can say that I’m a bit of everything… I blog about my experiences using words, pictures, sometimes videos. Let’s see what my blogging life takes me..

Thanks to the iBlog organizers and also to the sponsors for this event (AyosDito.ph, POC, Smart, Jollibee, Yehey, 611 Connect, Greatwebhost, RealityTV & Alfox).

I won an iblog5 shirt too!

SuliTXT & EverybodyTXT by Globe Telecom

3488535783_162e51e6e3

I attended the Globe event last friday night at Legend Villas Pioneer.  That night, they shared with us 2 of their services for prepaid subscribers…

  • SuliTXT15
  • EverybodyTXT20

I’m not a prepaid subscriber but I believe those are great treats for prepaid Globe/TM users!  For example, in SuliTXT15, you could get 100 texts Globe to Globe/TM for just Php15 and in EverybodtTXT20, you get 100 texts Globe to Globe/TM and 20 texts Globe to other networks for just Php20.

Getting this load is extremely easy too.  There’s no need to register!  All you need to do is to go to your Globe load retailers nationwide to load SuliTXT & EverybodyTXT.

Here are some more details that are useful for Globe subscribers who are interested:

How to avail SuliTXT15:

  • Go to your favorite sari-sari store or go to any Globe load restailers nationwide
  • Text SULITXT 15 to 8888

How to check your text balance (Php1/text):

  • Text SLTXLOAD BAL to 8888 (if you bought your load from retailers)
  • Text SLTX BAL to 8888 (if you registered)

more details on Globe Telecom’s website.

Aside from sharing with us those good news, we were entertained by stand up comedians and also served with good food.  Thanks for the opportunity.

the ABCs of Building a Better Workplace

My colleague Mark sent an email to us sharing the ABCs of building a better workplace.  I wanted to keep them in mind thus sharing with all of you…

workplace
  • Accept co-workers for who and what they are
  • Be kind and considerate
  • Create a positive, can-do atmosphere
  • Don’t insult or demean
  • Encourage excellence
  • Forget about past wrongs done to you
  • Grow smarter and wiser
  • Hang around with positive people
  • Insist on smiling at everyone
  • Join clubs or programs at your job
  • Know that work is only part of your life, not life itself
  • Laugh as often as possible
  • Move around daily.  Don’t become a cubicle potato
  • Nip jealousy in the bud
  • Open your mind to new ideas, new friendships
  • Pick up the tab next time you and a co-worker have lunch
  • Quit insisting on being right all the time
  • Reach out to an associate who is struggling
  • Stretch your abilities
  • Talk about your goals to those who can help you achieve them
  • Uncomplicate your life
  • Vindicate yourself by your upright, conduct, not excuses
  • Wait to talk.  Don’t wait to listen
  • Xerox a humorous quote, and share it with someone
  • Yank hurtful, hateful words from your speech
  • Zero in on what you need most to accomplish, and do it!
Hope it will help guide you on what kind of attitude we put in the workplace coz it sure did have an impact on mine.  To my colleagues, see you at work! hehee

This lunch was arranged because our teammate, Sean, is leaving the company

Aside from the good company, we experienced good food! How I love Lutong Macau’s dishes, the only thing that is setting me back is the price of their food… I do remember though that I used to eat a lot at their branch in Powerplant branch hehe.

Here are what we ordered:

  • Eggplant Taosi (Php 88)
IMG_3601

Unique dimsum… this is just eggplant in taosi sauce. Cooked just right.

  • Chicken Feet (Php 88)
IMG_3600

  • Beancurd Roll (Php 88)

I love this… I actually don’t understand how this is made but anyhow, this is delicious.. I’ll order this again when I go back.

  • Lemonade (Php 70)
IMG_3613

This is the BEST lemonade ever!!!!!!!!! I don’t know any other restaurant here in Manila that serve it sooooooooooooooo delicious like Lutong Macau do. You will really miss a lot if you don’t try this.

  • Special Fried Rice (Php 600)

  • Steamed Fish w/ Taosi (Php 650)

  • Lemon Chicken (Php 650)
IMG_3608

This is kinda weird but I’m pleasantly surprised! Don’t know about my colleagues though. I’m a lover of chicken skins and this dish felt like it is just pure chicken skins… Though I don’t think it is…. maybe they are just sliced so thin and fried till they are crisp and crunchy. I love love love love love love love this!

Overall, I still think I’ll keep coming back here because I love the food!! uhhh.. I’m hungry!!!
