My mom wanted to show me the cheap movie house in Taipei. Before we went for a visit, we satisfied our stomach first :P:P Mom said that there was a restaurant nearby w/c served super delicious food. So we went there.
The first thing I noticed was that the people there were ssooooo accommodating. The owners were taking care of his customers himself. He kept asking us how the food was, if we want anything else, etc. etc. Service was just superb!
We ordered the ff.:
- Vegetable (80NT)
I just love vegetable. I especially love the ones that are cooked in garlic with not much sauce. This dish we ordered was just perfect!
- Mapo Tofu (100NT)
Tofu is my ultimate favorite food (see last post)! I’d still enjoy it whatever way it was cooked. This restaurant’s mapo tofu is yummy! The chili sauce, servings of tofu, pepper and other spices were done evenly.
- Steamed Fish (180NT)
I don’t know what they put on top but it was just soooo good! The fish still had bones so I had to spend some time removing them before I could truly enjoy the dish. It was fresh and I really loved the crunchy thingy on top 😛
- Rice (10NT)
10NT per person 🙂
- Soup (Free)
Free soup for all guests plus complimentary tea as well.
From all the restaurants I’ve tried during my Taipei trip, this is definitely the most delicious & most affordable. I tried those very expensive restaurants but it doesn’t compare to this. Super duper yummy to the max and super cheap if I may say.
Look at how happy I was at that time 😛

My Favorite Stinky Tofu in Taipei
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On October 30, 2009
Whenever I think of Taipei, I think of è‡è±†è… Stinky Tofu.
My mom accompanied me to a stall near the ä¸å’Œå¸‚興å—觀光夜市 (Zhong He night market), located at Nan Shan Road. My mom assured me that they have the best è‡è±†è… stinky tofu. No other version could beat this!

è‡è±†è… stinky tofu at long last (& for only 40NT)! My mom bought intestine misua (35NT). The owners were soooooo nice, I even took a video of them preparing for our orders. You can hear me speaking mandarin in the video! 😛
Here is the finished product:

It didn’t disappoint. It definitely was the best è‡è±†è… stinky tofu I have tried during my Taiwan trip. When I tried the versions from other night markets, I was like craving for this one. This è‡è±†è… stinky tofu really tasted the best. The couple who owns the store is sooooo adorable & nice.
Rest of the pictures here.
If ever I do have a chance to go back to Taipei, I’ll definitely visit this place again and eat lots of their è‡è±†è… stinky tofu! 🙂

ä¸å’Œå¸‚興å—觀光夜市 Zhong He Night Market
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On October 29, 2009
After dinner, my mom and I went ahead and walked around the ä¸å’Œå¸‚興å—觀光夜市 (Zhong He night market).

The luggage that I brought with me to Taipei at the time wasn’t big enough to put the PS3 that I brought. So I was set to buy an additional luggage for the machine.
As what other night markets in Taiwan have, ä¸å’Œå¸‚興å—觀光夜市 has shops, food stalls, even arcade! Bargains anywhere… the things are just cheap! I bought pajamas at 100NT only (that’s a whole set composed of blouse & pants, mind you).

Of all the night markets in Taipei that we visited, I think this has the least number of people. I guess because it wasn’t located at the city proper. This is already at the farthest part of Taipei. I just realized that shopping is far more comfortable with less people! hahahaha!
There was a shop that caught my eye. I was looking at it with awe hehehe. My mom explained that the shop where we could freely rent a squared space for a certain amount and we can sell anything in that space. I bet the one who rented the squared-shaped spaces are all young people. The things they sell were sooooo cute!

Before I forget, I was able to buy a new luggage which looked like a Burberry bag & for only 480NT!! It is really elegant looking 🙂

Before my mom & I head for the night market. I accompanied her to dinner first. Since I just ate my meal at Gate One cafe, I ended up watching mom eat a super yummy meal (Of course, do you have to ask? I took pictures).
A lot of people frequent this restaurant and upon observing for quite some time, I saw that this place started way back in 1968. Wow! They are famous for their chicken w/ rice.
Guess what my mom ordered? Ofcourse their specialty: 燒雞腿飯 Chicken Leg Rice.
For just 70NT, we were able to have the chicken leg, rice, fishball soup & vegetable side dish.

Such a treat right? Overly affordable & delicious! I just hope we have this place here in Manila. Oh well…

Farsi Famous Persian Grill

Farsi Famous Persian Grill

Late last night, a friend of mine accompanied me for dinner at Farsi. It was already 11pm as I had a conference call that ended 10pm. I was too hungry that I wanted to eat something that I like. Since I’m fond of Persian food, I tried this.
The restaurant was well-hidden hahaha! We had to look for it. For those who wanted to try this out, Farsi is located at the back of Alba Resturant (along Tomas Morato).
The design of the restaurant is unique. There were paintings related to the theme. There was also television available for guests to watch. There was also free wifi provided as well (just need to ask for the password) 😛
We ordered the ff.:
- Fish Tehran (Php 140)
A twist to the usual fish fillet, this dish had two marinated breaded fish fillet topped with honey mustard sauce. The fish was good even though I felt that it was peppery. The dish was served with biryani rice that made it an authentic Persian food.
- Bottled Mountain Dew (Php 25)
Okay, I’m sorry, I can’t help it! It has been such a long time since I last saw a bottle of mountain dew hehehehe 😛 This used to be my favorite when I was little 😛
- Ripe Mango Shake (Php 50)
This was your typical mango shake but I felt that too much ice was put in.
I had brain freeze!!!
- Beef Roadway Footlong (Php 135)
This is Farsi’s version of the famous footlong hotdogs. hahahaha. Of course, theirs is a kebab! A 12-incher chelo kebab served with biryani rice.
You can choose either beef or chicken. Chicken is five pesos cheaper. I ordered beef of course, as I have always loved beef kebabs.
It was a bit hard to bite, but I found it was still juicy inside and delicious. I just wish it wasn’t so hard to bite though.
Another that stuck to my mind was their excellent service. The waiter waited for me to take pictures then when we were about to leave, he came out and assisted us as our car was backing out of the parking area.
After eating, I realized how much I missed Hossein & Arya Persian Restaurants. I will definitely go there very soon.
