John and Yoko
2/F Greenbelt 5, Legaspi St., Legaspi Village, Makati City, Metro Manila

——————–
Yesterday, I met up with Christina.  It is such a rare occasion for me to go and eat at Greenbelt 5.  I’m so used to eat at Greenbelt 2 and 3.  So sometimes I feel that whenever I go to Greenbelt 5, I’m always at a loss as to where to eat.

Anyway, so yesterday, we opted for John and Yoko.  It was because I kept raving that their wagyu rice is soooooooo delicious!  Definitely, this is a must try!

There wasn’t too many people dining because it was early evening when we entered.  Would you believe that after an hour, the place started to fill up?  Certainly, nice business for John and Yoko despite the expensive price of their dishes.

Here are what we ordered:

  • Tofu Cheese Melt (Php 178)
4123949460_4948ed358b

To be honest, I was hesitant to try this.  I didn’t dare touch the food until we finished all the other dishes. hahahah!!  I don’t know why, it was just that I felt that cheese with tofu doesn’t blend well.

When I finally tried it, I was pleasantly surprised.   Tofu felt like it was wrapped in melted cheese.   And wow!  It was spicy!

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile now, then you know how much i love tofu!  This is simply one of the most unique Tofu dishes I’ve sampled.  This is very good food and I recommend you do try this!

  • Wagyu Rice (Php 299)
4123180665_3eff5f7ec3

I tried this before and I just can’t help but order this again.  It is just consistently good!   Our favorite Wagyu beef combined into our rice w/ common fried rice ingredients such as onions, eggs & soy sauce.  I wish I could cook fried rice this good.

  • Bacon Wrapped Dory (Php 238)
4123179865_cb489d5ecb

From all the dishes that we ordered, this is my favorite.  This is Fish with Bacon and wow!!!  It was yummy!!!  I don’t even know how to describe this dish but all i can say is that it was delicious.  Every John and Yoko customer should at least try this on their next visit to the restaurant.

One other thing that I noticed in John & Yoko is the outfit of their female servers.  They were wearing such short skirts that most guys (even girls) can’t help but notice.  I know it is a strategy but I really hope that they don’t push them to wear something so short.  The girls are pretty aloof as well.

The male servers, I found to be more friendly & service-oriented.

Thousand Cranes Shabu-Shabu

Thousand Cranes Shabu-Shabu
2/F Greenbelt 3 Legaspi St., Legaspi Village, Makati City, Metro Manila
(02) 729-8640

——————–
The only shabu-shabu place I know is located at Greenbelt 3.  It has great ambiance.  Even if you’re eating something hot, you won’t feel uncomfortable.

Service though is a bit blah coz there were only 4 staff that day.  So there was only 1 manning the kitchen, 1 manning outside area, 1 manning the inner area & 1 manning the counter.  How could they serve customers with over 15 tables & they were undermanned?  tsk tsk!

Before our order arrived, the staff helped setup the cooking area and ingredients for sauce.  I lovvveeeeeee sate sauce.

For those who don’t know how to cook, no worries!!!  It’s easy!  You just need to put the ingredients on the boiling soup, wait for a few minutes for it to be cooked and then you’re good 🙂

Here are what we ordered:

  • Shrimp & Meat Shabu-Shabu (Php 570)

With Shrimp & Meat Set, you could choose chicken, fat beef or porkloin as your meat.  We have chosen porkloin.  By the way, you need to be attentive when you start putting your shrimp and meat in.  To cook shrimp and meat, don’t let it stay more than a minute in the soup.

  • All Balls Set (Php 400)

4095604244_b400ca2625

Different kinds of balls in this order: shrimp balls, squid balls, meat balls, even crab sticks! 🙂  If you just want pure & simple shabu shabu meal, then this is for you.

  • Fresh Buko Juice (Php 70)

I still prefer Shabu-Shabu places that offer eat all you can.  I think those are more affordable and we have more control as to what we’ll eat.  For me, I would have preferred more porkloin and more shrimps!

And also, there will be less waste for those ingredients that we don’t like (or eat).

Cafe Ysabel

455 P. Guevarra St., San Juan, Metro Manila

——————–
It has been such a long time since I went to this restaurant. When we were told that we’re eating at Cafe Ysabel, I was even imagining another restaurant in Ortigas hehehe.

It took us quite a time to wait for the food to arrive. Imagine, we were only able to receive our orders after 1 whole hour? Later on, we found out that the students were the one who cooked our food and the chef has to approve them first before serving to us.

Is it worth the wait? Maybe, but 1 hour is really too long.

We were served the ff. though while waiting:

  • Freshly Baked Bread
securedownload-11

This one is served with olive oil & balsamic vinegar.

  • Virgin Mary
securedownload-10

Guess who served us this free offering by the restaurant? A local celebrity here in the Philippines named Janice de Belen. She was telling us that this is something we can take before eating anything. It should be called bloody mary but since this particular shot doesn’t have alcohol then they would call it virgin mary.

This tasted like tomato juice eeheheh but it was good.

Finally, came our orders.. But they tasted good!

  • Sopa Ysabel (Php 115)
securedownload-6

Mixed seafood chowder w/ saffron.

  • Gambas (Php 218)
securedownload-9

This tasted normal. Just like what restaurants usually serve. I like this version better than the ones served in Filipino grill restaurants.

  • Prawns Thermidor (Php 488)
securedownload-4

Shrimps stuffed w/ young mushrooms, vegetables, cheese (baked).

This one I ordered, I was able to cook something like this myself before when I took up a 1-day cooking class. So I had an idea what this dish should taste like. And I’m happy that it is indeed delicious.

  • Mariscada (Php 488)
securedownload-2

mixed seafood in olive oil, herbs & tomato sauce.

  • Silk Road Salad (Php 298)
securedownload-3

A salad w/ sausage, noodles, apricots, smoked salmon, mango & leaves in apple sprice dressing.

This looked really yummy, I just thought that the salmon looked rare so I didn’t try it when it was offered.

  • Pan Roasted Seabass (Php 988)
securedownload

We can either choose vietnamese butter & mixed seafood in Crustacean sauce or hazelnut butter w/ wild mushroom ragout. This particular dish that our colleague ordered is the mixed seafood in crustacean sauce.

  • Glazed Spare Ribs (Php 398)
securedownload-1

When we say spare ribs, I never really imagine it as ribs… because other restaurants usually serve this in chunks. So I was pleasantly surprised to see how this dish was presented.

It’s honeycured spareribs coated w/ fruity barbeque glaze.

  • Lapu Lapu Al Graten (Php 358)
securedownload-5

it’s described as a pre-war favorite (I don’t know why it is though hehehe) .
this was cooked the Spanish way with red wine, cheese and tomatoes

  • Crepe Ysabel (Php 148)
securedownload-8

Cafe Ysabel is most famous for their desserts. This is one of them.

Cafe Ysabel serves international food (Filipino, French, Italian, Mediterranean & American). The restaurant used to be an old Spanish house that was transformed into a dining place & cooking school.

We went on a thursday night so there was no pianist. I would advise everyone to go on a weekend so you would hear good music while also appreciating the good ambiance this restaurant has.

I had lunch w/ Alex & Mitch at Luk Foo today. Alex has been raving about how delicious the food are in Luk Foo.

After I took the first bite, I already am positive that their dishes are extremely delicious!

Here are what we ordered:

  • Steamed Garlic Fish Fillet w/ Eggplant (Php 260)
securedownload

Served in a fish metal plate. This is truly a unique & delicious food.
The fish tasted so fresh. I never thought that eggplant & steamed fish go well together!

  • Crispy Prawn w/ Salty Egg Yolk (Php 320)
securedownload-1

Another unique menu, they used salty egg as the breading of the prawns… and I loved it! Luk Foo is now part of my favorite restaurant list.

  • Broccoli w/ Scallop & Shrimp (Php 480)
securedownload-2

Surprisingly, I felt that this is just a normal dish but yet this is the most expensive one. must be the scallops.

One thing that I find intriguing is that all Luk Foo Restaurants are located only in Puregold outlets. I wonder why…

I will definitely go back when I have a chance! Super duper delicious food!!!

Dinner at Teriyaki Boy Banawe

Teriyaki Boy
780-A Banawe Street, Quezon City, Metro Manila Philippines
(02)414-2142

——————–
I had dinner with sisters Cathy & Cecile to celebrate Cathy’s birthday. It has been a loong time since I last saw them, I haven’t been able to join the bible study meetings. The meetings are usually scheduled thursdays and I usually ended up getting so tired at work that I didn’t get to attend it for a loong time hehehe. We were able to catch up with each other’s lives. I will not share details here hehehe 😛

Anyway, this blog is about Teriyaki Boy (in Banawe that is). So here goes..

We had a hearty dinner.. Ordered a lot of items in the menu.

  • California Maki (Php 125)

Sorry I forgot to take a picture we were so hungry ahahah when I realized it, we already ate 2 pieces ehehehe. Nothing really special about this item, taste the same as the other restaurants.
  • Teriyaki Chicken

This is one of the best selling items of Teriyaki Boy. I love the taste and how they cooked it. The sauce is really unique and yummy! 🙂 A must-have when you dine there.

  • Ebi Tempura (Php 250)

Another normal order heeheh. We are just programmed to order tempura whenever we are at a japanese restaurant. Since Teriyaki Boy is a japanese restaurant, ofcourse we have to order this one. 😛

  • Tofu Steak (Php 130)

This one I really love… The tofu is soft delicious and complements perfectly with the other ingredients. I’m not even sure if it’s ground meat but it taste sooo good! and it’s cheap too!

  • Asupara Bacon Maki (Php 150)

This is my ever ever favourite Teriyaki Boy Menu Item. I crave for this whenever I go to this restaurant. Though last night, I really didn’t like the taste. The Bacon was dry but the asparagus is ok.

And they have their own Bottled water (Php 35) now
Overall, still a good place to dine 🙂 Honestly though, the popularity died down already and I don’t see myself eating here often… once in a while I will, but not regularly eheheh 🙂
