Disturbia Movie Review

disturbia-poster

Was able to watch this late last night via DVD.   There’s a wellness circle in our office wherein we can borrow DVDs for 1 week (free of charge).  I have chosen Disturbia as I have watched the other titles available.

It’s a story about a boy named Kale (played by Shia LaBeouf) who lost his dad while driving home after a fishing trip.  A year after, Kale was reprimanded by his Spanish Teacher for not completing his assignment.  Kale punches his teacher when he mentioned his father.

Kale ended up being subjected to 3 months house arrest w/ a monitor fitted in his ankle that prohibits him from roaming beyond the boundaries of his home.

To fight boredom & to entertain himself, he surveys his neighborhood with his binoculars.  His friend Ronnie and girlfriend Ashley joined him in this hobby of his.

One night, Kale became suspicious of a neighbor named Robert Turner when he saw him return home with a dented mustang that matches the description of the car owned by a serial killer.

The movie just revolved around Kale spying on Turner and Turner trying to kill Kale’s friends & mom and framing Kale for it.

Kale ended up killing Turner out of self-defense.  He was released of house arrest out of “good behavior”.  A funny description of the police for Kale’s help on finding the serial killer hehehe.

Overall, a good movie!  Shia is just an eye candy for ladies hehehe!  But the story and the experience of watching it is nice as well.

My Rating for Disturbia: 3 out of 5 stars.

Nestle Meet & Greet

An informative & fun event indeed.  It was well-planned and well-attended by the Nestle People 🙂  It was their 1st blogging event and I’m lucky to be invited to it.

The agenda was composed of 3 major topics:

  • I Choose Wellness
  • Nestle Recipes by Chef Tess Sutilo
  • Creating Shared Value

I Choose Wellness
Nestle has been passionate about promoting wellness among us by a health campaign called “I Choose Wellness”.  The company launched the program on promoting good nutrition and physical fitness for achieving wellness & preventing lifestyle diseases.

The company organized activities nationwide to promote it:

Nestle Recipes by Chef Tess Sutilo

We were also served with some more food like BBQ, Tofu, Palabok after the demo.

See the demo & recipes here.

Creating Shared Value
Nestle defined this as long-term investments that benefit the country and its people, while they do business.  It’s more of a good act that will make difference in the lives of the ones in need and also inspire others to do their share.

Here are the success stories that came out of it:

  • Batzam Distributor

IMG_6758

Mang Andy or Andy Jimenez was a farmer & a scrap dealer before he became a Nestle distributor in Bataan & Zambales.

  • Business on WheelsIMG_7006

He used to deliver food items for an agency, but with an initial capital of Php4,000, Jaypee Padilla suddenly found himself transformed into an entrepreneur – with a tricycle load of goods, a ready market & a seasoned business partner.

  • Ice Cream Street SellingHerman and Madonna poses with some of their Carritos

Madonna & Herman Falcis made their 1st foray into business by distributing dressed chickens.  Encouraged by their initial success, they accepted an offer to go in micro-distribution for Nestle.  Today, their home in Laguna accomodates their small extended family & an ice cream depot – along w/ their vendors

  • Micro DistributionJoel Domacena

Joel Domacena became a MD entrepreneur in March 2008 after being in & out of the job market since 2005.  Since then, Joel has been selling more than Php10,000 worth of Nestle products daily, earning a comfortable profit plus additional bonus incentives for meeting sales quotas.

Thanks to Nestle.  I’m pretty sure lots of people are more aware of their personal wellness now 🙂  I’ll join the Milo Marathon soon, maybe next year?  We’ll see… 😛

Nestle’s I Choose Wellness Program

I bet everyone notices the ad campaigns of Nestle focusing on wellness.

Nestle shared to us bloggers during the meet & greet yesterday why Nestle is into wellness.

  1. Global Health Trends – Rising health problems as reported by the World Health Organization.  These problems are mostly lifestyle diseases that can be prevented.  Examples are heart disease, hypertension, cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, diabetes.
  2. Nestle being the World’s Food Company – comes a responsibility of the company to its consumers for better health, nutrition & wellness.

Basic Principles of Wellness:

  • Eat Right
  • Exercise Regularly
  • Find Balance in the physical, mental, emotional & spiritual aspects in life

The question Nestle Corporate Wellness Head Cora Sager asked us was “Are you an Apple or a Pear?

3883629013_0d85b26c67

When we say apple, the fats are saturated on the waist area (more prone to heart disease & hypertension).  If you’re a pear, then your fats are on your hips (more prone to varicose veins & orthopedic problems).  I definitely know that I’m a pear but whether we are a pear or an apple, there is a definite need to choose wellness.

To get started, we have to assess first.  Cora taught us how to get our own BMI, waist circumference and waist to hip ratio.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a quick indicator of health by measuring the appropriate weight for one’s height.  Here is how:

  1. know your height & weight
  2. convert your height to meters, weight to kilograms.
  3. bring out your BMI wheel to find out where you stand
    1. 3883631563_ea681fe2f4

If your BMI result is <18 then you’re underweight, 18-24.9 then you’re average (I’m here! yipee!), >/=25 then you’re overweight.

Next is to get your waist circumference, it is located between the lowest rib and tip of the hip bone.  An indicator of abdominal fat.

    3883632681_f3c9681a09

Ideal:  Male (<35 inches), Female (<31 inches)

Lastly, get your Waist to Hip Ratio.  Formula is Waist/Hip (Hip Circumference: Largest area of the buttocks).

    Target: Male (<1), Female (<0.8)

Once we have finished the assess part, we’ll need to set our goals.  Find out what our ideal measurement are and set it as our ultimate goal.

Nestle gave us a kit of I Choose Wellness w/c we can use to achieve personal wellness.

    3884422730_d67822e6ee

The last step is to plan little steps and milestones monthly to achieve our wellness goal.

So just to summarize, the 3 steps to do get started on personal wellness:

    1. Assess – BMI, Waist Circumference, Waist to Hip Ratio
    2. Set a Goal – find ideal measurements
    3. Plan Little Steps & Milstones Monthly

Nestle has the “I Choose Wellness” movement that you can join so they can help guide you to achieve personal wellness.

They provide free nutrition counseling, wellness seminars, fitness activities, brand sampling/games/activities.

HKO: Alba & Her Journey to Level 15

I posted an entry a week ago regarding Hello Kitty Online.  I just registered that day & the week after, my character now reaches level 15!  Wohoo!

    Meet Alba, my HKO character.

    alba

She’s currently a week old.  Born last August 24, 2009 and has blood type AB.  She’s very jolly and hardworking.

Throughout the week, she has been to Sanrio Harbour & Florapolis.  Learned how to farm, plant, gather & mine.  She has also been hired to do tailoring, forging & cooking.

    She acquired a farm too!

    farm

Getting to level 15 is not easy to do in HKO.  It’s even easier to level up in World of Warcraft rather than in HKO.  It took me like 7 hours to get from level 14 to 15.  Imagine the total # of  hours I played to reach this milestone 😛

One thing I learned in leveling up is aside from performing the quests, you can also just raise your skills namely:

    • Planting – you do this in your farm.  Put fertilizer first then seed then water it.
    • Gathering – When you see a tree, that’s where you can gather.  You can also gather stuff from the plants in your farm.
    • Woodcutting
    • Mining

There are 4 profession that your character can do, I don’t think raising this will let you level up but doing this will let you finish some quests.  You’ll need to purchase recipes in order to perform the job, some are given as a reward when you complete a quest.

    • Forging
    • Cooking
    • Tailoring
    • Carpentry

I spent most of the time woodcutting & gathering in order to level up fast.  So that’s the tip I can give to people who want to reach higher levels at the fastest time possible.

Truly a cute game.  I’m excited for it to go out of beta.  Let’s see if they do some improvements.  Hopefully they listened to my suggestions.

My biggest request is for them to make this Mac OS-compatible PLEASE 🙂
