Slumdog Millionaire.. the Philippine Premiere

IMG_3026

Yes, I watched this twice already and has already blogged about it (see my post here). But I just can’t get enough, I watched those only at home and with my 32″ TV.

Since I do have a chance to watch it on the big screen (thanks to Viva International Pictures & TV5), why would I miss that opportunity? It’s one of the GREATEST film of all time. I really love it and I’m asking all of you to catch it when it opens in Philippine cinemas on April 11, 2009. You’ll surely miss a lot if you don’t watch it. It isn’t Oscar’s Best Picture for nothing.

At first, I mentioned in my previous blog entry that the movie revolved around Jamal’s joining the “Who wants to be a millionare” game show. Yes, it revolved there but actually, it all boils down to his love for Latika…

He was able to win 20M rupees and was able to answer all the questions because… all questions coincidentally do have relations with his life.. from the time that he was a kid till present.. I also love how the story has been presented in the movie… you won’t notice that the movie is 2 hours long, that’s how good it is..

After watching this the 3rd time, I realized that this movie is really about love… I believe Jamal (lead character) has chosen to live for love and it is his destiny… so touching (I was really trying not to cry coz noone’s really crying watching the movie hehehe)… but deep inside I cried coz I’m so touched with the movie… and the movie ended very well… It is a happy ending!

I am Legend Movie Review

i_am_legend_ver4

I was watching HBO last weekend and this was the movie that was showing that time. I’ve watched this already before, I’m not sure though if I watched it in a movie house or also on HBO or DVD but I decided to watch it again. There’s nothing else to watch anyway on the television. And besides, it’s Will Smith!!

It was a movie about a cure that was made for cancer (altered measles virus). Unfortunately this cure mutated into a lethal airborne strain. It infected 90% of humanity. The remaining uninfected people are either being hunted/killed or committed suicide.

Will’s character (Neville) is left as the last healthy person in New York City. His family was killed in an evacuation mission when the helicopter exploded.

Neville spents his days with his dog (Sam) & experiments on the cure of this disease as well as finding survivors. One day, he sets out a trap to capture an infected woman to test the cure that he has made. The leader of the infected group saw this and try to attack him but since infected people are intolerant of sunlight & uv rays, Neville was able to escape.

One time, Neville was victimized by a trap created by the infected group, they set out infected dogs to attack Neville and Sam. After Sam and Neville was able to kill the dogs and get back to the laboratory, and try to cure Sam unfortunately, he was infected with the disease and try to attack Neville, poor Neville, all he can do is strangle his dog and bury him… now he’s totally alone… with this.. Neville try to seek revenge by attacking the infected group, I guess also his way of giving up as he’s all alone now..

Fortunately, he was saved by a woman and a boy who was on their way to a rescue camp. They all went back to Neville’s laboratory. The infected group found a way to Neville’s laboratory and starts to attack them. Then, Neville noticed that the cure he made was working! With this, he took a sample and gave it to the woman and asked her that this is the purpose why they met and let them escape.

Neville sacrificed his own life and put up a bomb killing him and the infected group. The woman & boy was able to escape and arrive at the rescue camp and gave the cure that Neville made. With this, he became a legend.

Nice, meaningful.. I notice that Will Smith movies are really worth watching. This is one of them

My rating for I am Legend: 4 out of 5 stars.

Unborn Movie Review

TheUnborn

I watched this movie with friends, Jo (call out to Jo) has chosen this over other movies like watchmen, taken, race to witch mountain & you changed my life.  I really was hoping we watch watchmen but they already watched it.  My 2nd choice was also Unborn so I was kinda happy that Jo has chosen it.

I’m fond of horror movies but I get really scared when I watch them. Weird but true… I can’t explain it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like this movie. Must be the story…

Unborn’s story revolves around a young lady (Casey) being haunted by a dybbuk.  A dybbuk is a spirit that doesn’t want to leave in the human world and ended up inhabiting the body of a person.

Apparently, it started with her grandmother (Sofi) wherein her twin brother was killed in Nazi experiments when they were still kids.  A dybbuk used Sofi’s twin brother’s body and he was brought into life.  Due to this, Sofi killed her twin and the dybbuk is now haunting her whole family (including Casey, her granddaughter).

Sofi referred Casey to Rabbi who can perform exorcism to remove the dybbuk from the human world. While they were performing the exorcism though, the dybbuk tried to stop Rabbi and ended up killing lots of people. The movie ended with Casey being pregnant with twins!

I honestly don’t get it, is the dybbuk back? or is it just ironic that Casey is having twins..

My rating for Unborn: 1 out of 5 stars.

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog_Millionaire_poster

I became soo interested in this movie after watching the Oscars. It was like nominated 10 times and won most of it including Best Picture. They also performed there and that also made me curious!

Watched this movie with Joana when we had our girl bonding last week. We are both so impressed with the movie. I do agree that this is definitely oscar-worthy.

The movie started with a question:
“Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million rupees. How did he do it?”

  • He cheated
  • He’s lucky
  • He’s a genius
  • It is written

Jamal is a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. And the story just unfolds there. As each question was asked, Jamal’s story is also being shown.. revealing that Jamal knows all the answers as he has experienced them all… I don’t wanna go into details as I think this is not yet shown here in Manila. But you get the gist..

At the end of the movie, you’ll know the answer to the question of how Jamal won the money.
There’s also a dance number at the end with all the cast and other dancers… cool & nice to watch.

I love it!

Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie Review

confessions_of_a_shopaholic

Watched this with long-lost friends/colleagues at Powerplant Cinema.  People has been saying that this is a really nice movie so I wanted to watch it to see if it’s really good.

This film is an adoption of a famous novel series, shopaholic written by Sophie Kinsella.  I haven’t read the book so I really cannot compare.  My friends told me that me that it’s very different from the book.  I guess it’s really rare for a movie to be better than the books.  There’s really no perfect adapation, there’s just good adaptation.

Basically, this movie revolves around a girl who’s a shopaholic. She moved to Manhattan to be part of a magazine called Alette but didn’t get the job. She followed the advice of the receptionist to apply to Successful Saving w/c is also a part of the company where Alette magazine is in.  Unfortunately, she initially didn’t get the job as well.  Frustrated, she wrote letters to both Alette Magazine & Successful Savings editors while she was drunk.  She mistakenly exchanged 2 letters.  She ended up being hired to Successful Savings because the editor was very impressed with the article she has written. She was then recognized as “the girl with the green scarf”.  I don’t wanna indulge more details as people who has not watched it might get so pissed off reading my post hehehe.

I can’t really say that it’s an excellent movie.  What I can say is… it is a feel-good movie.  If you had a stressful day and wanna relax then this is the best movie to watch.  It’s funny & light

My Rating for Confessions of a Shopaholic: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
