A Merry Merry Christmas from Seattle’s Best

Seattle's Best Christmas

If you follow me via Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, you might have noticed my posts yesterday about sampling new drinks from Seattle’s Best and being able to see firsthand their 2014 Dream Journal.  I was lucky to be one of the first few bloggers who were invited for a preview of Seattle’s Best christmas offerings!

So here I am sharing what I learned from the event.  It was truly an enjoyable experience considering we didn’t have a slightest idea on what was in store for us.

We went to their dela rosa branch where we were greeted by Seattle’s Best friendly managers.  They were obviously excited about what they were sharing with us.  It’s funny how they were trying to be composed yet it was pretty obvious how eager they were! haha!

Look at that big smile Eric gave us!  You see, he was only on his first slide!  I said to myself, this must be good.  He started with sharing what the upcoming holiday drinks are.  As Eric showed the slide about one drink, we saw a server bringing the drink to us.  And boy, we were all in awe!  I thought candy decorations are only fit for cupcakes but apparently, it also works for coffee!

Apart from the holiday drinks, Eric showed us mockup photos of Seattle’s Best Coffee shops with the christmas decorations.  Lastly, he explained the different features of the most awaited Seattle’s Best 2014 Dream Journal.  We got ourselves a planner to bring home!  Whee!

Ready to know what kind of treats Seattle’s Best has in store for us?  Here! 🙂

Seattle’s Best 2013 Holiday Drinks

The holiday drinks are composed of four different flavored coffee based on Seattle’s Best famous White chocolate mocha and classic mocha.  What I love about them is the decoration and the distinct taste & flavour of each drink.  Never have I imagined that I would see gingerbread man on my coffee!  It works and I just love it!  How can coffee be so cute?!?! <3

  • Gingerbest

seattles best drink 4

SBC’s white chocolate mocha infused with gingerbread syrup, garnished with whipped cream, topped with Christmas tree candy sprinkles and gingerbread candy man.

  • Roasted Hazelnut

seattles best holiday drink

SBC’s classic mocha harmoniously mixed with roasted hazelnut and coffee syrups topped with a cloud of whipped cream, crushed hazelnuts and snowflakes candies.

  • Eggnog Frost

seattles best drink 1

SBC’s white chocolate mocha perfectly combined with eggnog and cinnamon vanilla flavors topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with silver candy beads.

  • Cookies & Mint

Seattles best drink 6

SBC’s classic mocha with a tempting mix of Oreo cookies and mint syrup covered with whipped cream and crushed Oreo cookies. An SBC all-time Christmas favorite.

If I have to rank the 4 drinks, I would say Eggnog Frost is my first choice, Gingerbest is second, Roasted Hazelnut as third and Cookies & Mint as fourth.  It’s pretty obvious that I would choose Eggnog Frost and Gingerbest because I super love Seattle’s Best white chocolate mocha.  In fact, it has been my staple order whenever I visit Seattle’s Best! hehe 🙂

Once you tried any of Seattle’s Best 2013 holiday drinks, let me know which one you like!

Move On with Contractubex

Contractubex Scar Gel

It has been a year since I fell badly on a concrete cement during a friend’s wedding ceremony.  On the first day itself, I got myself Contractubex Gel to put on my big wound.  Contractubex’ commercial with Maricar Reyes were airing that time so it got stuck in my mind that the product will heal scars effectively.  I’ve been using it since for eight straight months.  I’ve been religiously putting it on three to four times a day and sometimes more.

From then on, the wound lightened.  However, it didn’t go away.  I wondered what went wrong.  Do I need to wait for years for it to heal?  Is Contractubex ineffective?  Why does it look like this?  It definitely improved from last year but my knee looks like sh*t :'(

Contractubex scar

When I got an email invite for a Contractubex event, I couldn’t say no.  It was a perfect opportunity for me to talk to the people distributing the product.  I wanted to ask them how the product really works, why my scar does not heal, and if I’m applying contractubex wrongly.

I met Dr. Librojo in the event.  She’s an avid supporter of Contractubex and have been recommending the product to all her patients who has scars.  I listened intently to her speech where she shared what a scar is, the different types of scars, how some scars heal and some don’t, why Contractubex is a good product to use for scars, and how Contractubex should be applied to wounds.

Contractubex doctor

Different Types of Scars

  • Raised or Hypertropic Scar – confined to the area of the original skin injury; forms after the healing of the wound and is caused by overproduction of connective tissue fibers; tends to bulge and protrude above level of surrounding skin.
  • Keloid – also results from overproduction of connective tissue fibers and tend to bulge above the level of the surrounding skin beyyond the original wound edges.

Net, among those two types of scars, you wouldn’t wanna have keloids because it’s ugly and it doesn’t regress by themselves.  With that talk, I understood that the scar I have on my knee is a combination of hypertropic and keloid.  That explains why I have a few ugly spots on my scar (they are keloids).  It definitely broke my heart because I know that I won’t be able to have complete flawless skin because of that scar 🙁

I made due diligence by putting on Contractubex gel so I’m still lucky.  If not, it would have been more ugly.  I had a talk with Dr. Librojo after the event and she told me upfront that the only way for me to remove that scar completely is to have surgery.  When she said surgery, it’s getting skin from another part of my body then putting it on my knee.  Errr.. no thank you.  She also didn’t recommend that.  The kind doctor asked me to continue putting on Contractubex because the outer sides of my scar can still be lightened by the product.

At least, that part is cleared.  Contractubex gel is NOT a scar eraser.  Contractubex gel is a scar doctor and I can attest to that.  My scar definitely lightened.  I restarted applying Contractubex again on my scar.  Hopefully, it’ll improve more especially the part that can be healed.  *Crossing my fingers*.

Apart from being able to get my questions answered, I got a bonus!  I ended up seeing my girl crush in person!

contractubex models

She’s Maricar Reyes.  Ever since I saw her on TV, I am just so awed (& probably jealous) at her beauty.  So when she entered the event, I was completely starstruck!  hahaha!  Maricar, along with 2 other Contractubex endorsers shared their success stories in using the product on their scars.

If you’re like me who experienced an accident and ended up with a scar, Contractubex gel is a good product to use.  I used that on mine and I don’t know any other product that specializes on scars.  With a lot of good testimonials shared during the event and also, my very own experience with the product, I believe that Contractubex gel is effective in treating scars.  It might not erase scars but it definitely help ease the ugly look of it.

contractubex scar doctor

Contractubex – anti-scar gel that helps lighten, flatten and soften scars.  It also helps make the scar smoother and more pliable.

Contains 3 complementary active ingredients:

  1. extractum cepae (special onion extract) has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal properties and prevents formation of excessive scar tissue.
  2. heparin softens the tissue structure, has anti-inflammatory, anti-swelling and hydrating properties.
  3. allantoin promotes wound healing, hydrates the skin and has a soothing effect which helps relieve the itching often associated with scar formation.

How to use Contractubex:

  1. rub from the center to the edges of the scar.
  2. massage for around 2 minutes
  3. for bext results, apply 3-4 times a day and put pressure plaster.

Depending on the degree and size of the existing scar or contracture, treatment will be necessary for several weeks.  Good results can be achieved after consistent application for at least 3 months.  You can continue the treatment up to a year, if necessary.

Contractubex is available in drugstores here in the Philippines.  The 10 gram-gel is sold at Php 550 while the 20 gram-gel is sold at Php 970.  I usually get the 20-gram as I have a big scar and I foresee to use it for several months more.  Plus, you save money when you get bigger pack.

Relik New Lunch Specials at Php 199

Relik New Lunch Specials

I’ve written about Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge  already.  I mentioned how it changed my outlook about bars.  Places like Relik Bar while popular at night time, do serve delish food during daytime too!

Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge used to have the Php 350 lunch sets that include a main dish, soup, and salad.  I guess after more than a year of operations, they realised that some people prefer to spend only minimal amount on meals.  Just last month, Relik launched their new lunch specials that include free iced tea!  And now, they’re offering it at Php 199!  I got to try some Relik’s lunch offerings a few weeks ago.  I must admit, I liked them all.  However, my favorite has got to be the Chorizo pasta just because they didn’t scrimp on the main ingredient.

  • Cheesy Tomato Pork Belly

Relik Lunch Special 5

24 hours sous vide port topped with tomato cheese fondue and baked in the oven.

Who wouldn’t want to eat several pieces of uber-tender pork belly?  I certainly want it!  Relik made a twist by putting tomato and cheese on top of it (usually restaurants use mushroom sauce)!  Served with fries.  I would probably request for Relik to change it the side dish to rice.  Other than that, well-done dish!

  • Relik Solomillo

Relik Lunch Special 1

Photo from Relik’s FB Page

Grilled sirloin steak with garlic rice and buttered vegetables.

The steak wasn’t available during the time that I was sampling the lunch specials.  I saw the photo in Relik’s Facebook page.  Look at how big that steak was!  The next time I try to eat lunch at the Fort, I will order this one.

  • Pesto Fish Fillet

fish pesto

Photo from Relik’s FB Page

Poached dory drizzled with home made pesto sauce with a side of grilled potato hash.

For health conscious people, the pesto fish fillet is the lunch special to order.  I wasn’t able to try this too but I will most likely order this as I have a special fondness to fish.  Mostly because I want to lose weight 🙂

  • Chorizo Chorizo Pasta

Relik Lunch Special 2

Spaghetti with an olio based sauce and two types of Spanish chorizo

For pasta lovers, Relik offers the chorizo pasta.  If you like Italian pasta, then you will love this as they put garlic, olive sauce, parsley & parmesan cheese.  What made me like this dish is the generous amount of spanish chorizo.  Every forkful of this chorizo pasta was just heavenly!

  • Boneless Fried Chicken

Relik Lunch Special 3

With honey tomato fondue and chorizo fried rice.

One of my friends ordered this for the second time because the chicken tasted really good especially when it was freshly served.  The skin was crispy, chicken wasn’t too oily, and we didn’t need to do much work as Relik already removed the bones for us!

So there, if your office is located inside Bonifacio Global City, you have one more option for lunch!  Try out Relik’s new lunch specials at Php 199 with complimentary iced tea.  They are available mondays to fridays, 11:30AM to 2:30PM.

The Conjuring Movie Review

I told myself that I won’t watch any horror movies anymore after Evil Dead.  But what do I know?  I couldn’t say no to a friend especially when that person made a cute little plea.  I guess some people do really have that strong sense of commitment of not watching The Conjuring after hearing so many feedback that it was so damn scary.  My friend didn’t have anyone to watch the film with.  I watched the film out of friendship.  I knew that I will end up having sleepless nights if The Conjuring end up to be a good horror flick.  Hayyy…. the things I do for my friends 🙂

The Conjuring is based on a true story.  The Warrens (played by Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga) are paranormal investigators.  They came to help the Perron couple (Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor) & their 5 kids who are experiencing disturbing events in their new home in Harrisville, Rhode Island.  This was way back 1971.  The Conjuring is a classic story of ghosts and demons.  The different scary scenes are things that can really happen in our lives (or the film made us imagine that those eerie things might actually happen!).  Haunted house type of horror isn’t something new but what separates the Conjuring from the rest of the horror flicks is that the film didn’t overdo it.  There were no gory stuff at all.  The filmmakers executed the movie perfectly!

The Conjuring already scared the heck out of me even from the first ten minutes of the movie.  The scare continued scene per scene until the end of the movie.  Yes, I could have gotten myself a heart attack.  I screamed and jumped from my seat several times.  It was embarrassing!

The Conjuring stays with you for a while.  In fact, after 1.5 weeks, I continue to sleep when the sun is already up, my bedroom lights open, and TV open.  I wonder when I can get over it.

So if you end up being curious about the Conjuring, you are warned.  The movie is too good, too well-acted, and story well-played.  Watching it inside a moviehouse will make it more horrific.  Watch at your own risk and oh, better go to the washroom first because I don’t think you’d ever want to leave your seat and go to the washroom all alone.

Let’s play hide-and-seek *creepy*!

My Rating for The Conjuring: 5 out of 5 stars

iHop Restaurant

iHop Restaurant

I’m probably the last person in Manila who tried out iHop Restaurant for the first time.  Honestly, no matter how good the dishes of a restaurant are, I wouldn’t waste two hours of my time waiting in line.  I’d rather wait for several months and visit the place at my most convenient time.  That’s exactly what I did with the famous iHop (International House of Pancakes) restaurant at the Fort.

Fresh from the airport, I dropped by my house and left my luggage, then went straight to iHop Restaurant for dinner.  Obviously, I was pretty tired but I enjoyed the dinner nevertheless because I was with my friends.  Pardon my photos though, I realized they were pretty bad.  I hope that it still gave you an idea on what iHop offers in their restaurant.

The iHop craze died down so we didn’t have to wait for our group to be seated.

iHop Entrance

I’ve never been to any iHop restaurant so I don’t have anything to compare it with.  However, one thing I noticed is that it looked like a typical American restaurant.

iHop Ambiance

I liked how they put iHop’s specialties even on their lighting.  It’s a good personal touch and definitely fit the whole iHop ambience.

iHop Lighting

We were a big group.  The consensus is for us to order one of every kind of dishes that iHop offers.  Of course, pancakes won’t be missed.  I asked an American friend beforehand for advice on what to order on iHop.  I was told that the Harvest Grain n’ Pancakes were good.  I took a mental note.

  • Freshly Brewed Iced Tea (Php 95)

iHop Iced Tea

Refillable drink is love, love & love!  After having my first sip of iced tea, I was surprised that it actually tasted different from the usual ones.  As you know, restaurants tend to cut costs so if they offer unlimited drinks, it’s probably powdered.  In iHop’s case, their iced tea was brewed!

Other refillable drinks in iHop are lemonade, soft drinks and fruit sodas.

  • Big Steak Omelette (Php 325 + Php 50 for preferred pancake)

iHop Omelette

Tender strips of steak, hash browns, fresh green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar cheese.  Served with salsa.

We ordered the big steak omelette.  I wonder what they meant by the word ‘big’ because iHop didn’t give us enough steak to enjoy the dish.  I guess I expected too much.  Don’t get me wrong, it tasted okay.  I just wanted more of the steak and less of the other ingredients 😛

Every order of omelette comes with two pieces of buttermilk pancakes or seasoned mixed fruit.  We opted for pancake but a different variant, we paid additional Php 50 for the substitution.

iHop Pancakes

I asked for the Harvest Grain N’ Nut Pancakes because it was the flavor that my American friend suggested we order.  The pancakes were made with grains, oats, almonds and english walnut.  I didn’t find iHop’s pancakes extraordinary special but what made me giggle while eating were the pancake sauces!

iHop Sauces

There were butter pecan, blueberry, strawberry & old fashioned pancake sauces!  Having a bite of the pancake then dipping it into the sauce is an experience in itself.  It was like eating four different pancakes in one shot!  I loved strawberry sauce the most.  Yummeh!

  • New York Cheesecake Pancake Combo (Php 385)

iHop Cherry Pancake

two fluffy buttermilk pancakes loaded with creamy, rich cheesecake pieces and crowned with cool strawberries, powdered sugar and whipped topping.

I wasn’t really crazy about iHop’s pancakes anymore after sampling the orders that we had.  However, I loved the hashbrown included in the pancake combo.

iHop Sides

The other sides included are two eggs and choice of two bacon strips or 2 pork sausages.

  • Belgian Waffle Combo (Php 285)

iHop Waffle

Belgian waffle topped with whipped butter served with 2 eggs and choice of bacon or sausages.

Again, nothing special but I must say that the sausages were a disappointment.  It looked malnourished 🙁

  • Chicken Fajita Quesadilla (Php 365)

iHop Quesadillas

Grilled seasoned chicken breast with onions, fresh green peppers, and tomatoes in a grilled flour tortilla with cheddar and jack cheeses.  Served with sour cream and salsa.

For Php 365, I thought that iHop’s quesadillas were overpriced.  But after sampling it, wow!  It was delicious and flavourful!  This was one of the two orders that I really liked on our iHop visit (ironically, pancakes weren’t in that favorite list).

  • Tilapia Florentine (Php 375)

iHop Fish

Two delicate, seasoned tilapia fillets on top of spinach tossed in Alfredo sauce. served with mashed potatoes.

I’m not fond of fish dipped (or swimming) in white sauce.  I didn’t dare try it.  Have you?  What do you think of it?

  • Fried Chicken Dinner (Php 495)

iHop Chicken

Four pieces of fried chicken, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served with a savory biscuit, mashed potatoes and buttered corn.

Oh yes, we loved iHop’s fried chicken!  How surprising considering that iHop is known for pancakes and not chicken.  We even ordered one additional because we all wanted one whole piece of chicken for ourselves!  I guess the fact that iHop served the chicken newly-cooked made it more appetising.

Overall, my first experience with iHop isn’t that bad.  I knew that there was a hype since everyone loves foreign franchises.  iHop’s pancakes wont be something that I look forward to eat again but their fried chicken & quesadillas are good enough for me to pay another visit.
