Recipe: Torta

Ground Pork Omelette

Ever since I bought 1.5 kilos of ground pork due to a sale in S&R, I had been looking for recipes to cook with it.  One of the recipes that caught my attention is Wok with Ray‘s Filipino Style Omlette.  He made the torta look so delicious that I couldn’t help but plan to cook one myself ASAP.

Today, I finally did it.  I changed a bit of the ingredients from Ray’s recipe.  I used ground pork instead of ground turkey and made some adjustments in the cooking.  It takes time to cook Tortang giniling but after eating it, you’ll feel that it’s all worth it! Read More

Recipe: Bulalo

Beef Bulalo

One of my requests when we had a cookout at achie Ana’s house is for Pat to cook bulalo.  Luckily, my request was granted.  The bulalo turned out to be such a success and I just couldn’t get over it.  For days, all I wanted to eat was bulalo, bulalo, and bulalo!

Unfortunately that time, I couldn’t get myself one unless I go to a restaurant.  I then gathered enough courage to just cook for myself.  Whether the result was good or not, at least I tried my hand in cooking my very own bulalo.  Since I was able to see Pat cook the bulalo live, I thought that I could replicate it.  It takes a long time to cook bulalo.  I think this is the hardest part in cooking it.  The reason why it takes a long time is we need to make sure that the meat is very tender.  Plus we want the flavors to be infused fully to the dish. Recipe: Binagoongang Baboy

Binagoongang Baboy Recipe

I remember distinctly that I went to Monterey Meat Shop not having a list of items to buy.  However, while I browse through the available items in the shop, I tend to remember what type of dishes I love to eat.  When I saw some meat in the display, I asked the Monterey Personnel what meat I should buy if I wanted to cook binagoongang baboy.  The guy said, “Ma’am, you should buy the liempo.”.  I then told him to chop the liempo for my dish.

As soon as I got home, I immediately fired up Safari on my iPad and started searching for recipes.  I stumbled upon Crafty Momma‘s site and I just love how she demonstrated cooking pork binagoongan.  This made me understand and learn how to cook it for myself.  I made one small change wherein I used all Barrio Fiesta bagoong instead of mixing it with fresh shrimp paste. Recipe: Sauteed Mung Bean with Pork Crackling

Munggo Guisado Recipe

I always crave for hot soup during rainy weather.  Now being a total newbie in cooking, I decided to find a recipe that is easy to cook and consists of only a few ingredients.  Munggo guisad0 (Mung Bean soup) is a dish that I haven’t eaten for a very long time.  I think the last time I tried one was when I was still a little girl.

My kitchen has enough tools for me to cook a lot of things.  I have to be brave and cook or else, I will never learn.  So today, I cooked Mung Bean Soup with Pork Crackling (Munggo guisado w/ chicharon). Read More
