Today, KFC stores in the Philippines started selling the all-new KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich!

You might have noticed the beautiful image of the newly-developed product in the stores.  The product photo was truly mouth-watering!  Getting myself to try the KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich was a no-brainer thing to do.

KFC Philippines had this to say about their newest product:

The BBQ Shredder Sandwich is a fun and unusual take on the chicken sandwich.  With it, KFC hopes to inspire people to make changes in their daily lives – no matter how small.  It could be as easy as shredding your usual choice and trying out this new sandwich.

I guess KFC is trying to connect what we used to do every start of the year (making our New Year’s resolution) to its new product development.  For instance, we do the following activities when we create our goals for the year:

1. we reflect about what happened the past year
2. we decide on things we want to stop doing (bad habits, negative thoughts, etc)
3. we decide on things we want to start doing (new habits, learning a new sport, etc)
4. we decide on things we want to continue doing (things that worked, etc)
5. with all those steps above, we then organize our thoughts and start creating our goals for the year.

How do the activities above connect with KFC BBQ Shredder sandwich?  Well, the beginning of a new year is a perfect time to try out something NEW, continue successful (chicken!) items from before and shredding the usual items for a more exciting times ahead (more so good food!)

So there, a different sandwich experience for us KFC lovers.  This BBQ Shredder Sandwich is made of a unique mix of ingredients.  It has chicken shreds in smoky barbecue sauce, fresh lettuce and tortilla chips!  The chicken & BBQ sauce gave the sandwich flavor while the tortilla chips and lettuce gave the product some added crunch!  All those ingredients are served in a kaiser bun which is really soft and made the eating experience much easier & enjoyable!

The KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich is KFC’s way of starting the new year right and we certainly welcome that.  It is available in all KFC stores nationwide for Php 55.00 and Php 85.00 as a meal combo with french fries & drink.

It’s only a few days until Christmas, aren’t you excited?  Well, KFC is!

KFC continued its tradition of offering limited-edition Christmas Krushers at all its stores.  Last year, they offered Winter Berry Krushers (blended blueberries & strawberries with yogurt & milkshake) and Dulce de Leche Krushers (frosty milkshake with caramel, leche flan and pastillas).

Well, dessert lovers will like this year’s version of KFC Christmas Krushers for sure!  KFC has patterned their Christmas Krushers with two of our favourite desserts:  Double Dutch Chocolate and Sans Rival.  I, myself, consider Sans Rival as one of my favourite desserts so this was a good welcome news for me!

Double Dutch Krushers

Do you love ordering double dutch chocolate cake?  Well, you can have a drink version of it with KFC’s Double Dutch Krushers!

It is a decadent choco-vanilla drink with chocolate and soft marshmallow bits.  The marshmallow bits was a definite nice touch!  However, you do know that I’m not fond of chocolates so this was just o-kay for me.

Sans Rival Krushers

The Sans Rival Krushers, on the other hand, is a winner for me!  I love KFC’s rich butter cream drink with crunchy meringue bits.  It stayed true to the sans rival taste and there were actually real sans rival bits in the drink!  Sans Rival lovers will surely enjoy this rich flavored drink!

KFC offers an option to have the krushers flavor topped with frothy whipped cream.  I would stay away from whipped cream because it’s added calories.  But of course, it’s up to you 😉

Specialty Drinks usually costs around Php 90-150.  Good thing, KFC is offering their limited-edition Christmas Krushers for only Php 75!  Isn’t that a good Christmas promo?  I do think so!

Back when I was in college, I ate a lot of peanuts whenever I need to study overnight for an exam.  That habit didn’t stop at all!  Now that I’m working, I eat snacks in order to get me through a difficult task or even just to relieve stress.

Franny gave me a can of Allies Dry Toasted Wonder Peanuts to try out during the looloo launch.  Apparently, she and her husband distributes the Pampanga-based product here in Metro Manila.

My first impression when I inspected the product was the name ‘Allies Wonder Peanuts’.  I was like why did they put ‘wonder‘ in the name of the product?  Is Allies Dry Toasted Wonder Peanuts that wonderful?  What sets it apart from the vast peanut brands in the market?

I got the answer as soon as I opened the can and had taken several pieces of the dry toasted peanuts.

It was the generous amount of garlic!!!!  In fact, the amount of peanuts and the garlic was almost the same.

Honestly, I can’t tell what good and bad peanuts are but if it has loads of garlic, it’s a definite winner in my eyes.  Another thing that I liked about Allied Wonder Peanuts is that it’s not greasy.  While I have my hand sanitizer ready, I didn’t need to smudge on the laptop keyboard.

A friend warned me not to eat too much as he noticed me eating non-stop, saying that too much of it will give me urinary tract infection.  I, however, thought of the health benefits of peanuts.  I remember distinctly that peanuts is a brain food wherein it can boosts memory power.  I do agree though that we have to eat any food in moderation 😛

I knew that the product tasted good because my colleagues were taking seconds and asking me where they can buy Allies Dry Toasted Wonder Peanuts.

Smart C+ is Oishi’s first venture in the ready-to-drink category.  Oishi is one of the known manufacturers of snacks in the Philippines.  Now, why did it pique my interest?  Well, this new juice drink is unique!

Imagine a ready-to-drink juice that has 500mg of Vitamins C inside of it!  Yes, Smart C+ is a juice and vitamin in one!!!  Isn’t that Smart??

I need to buy tons of vitamins for my daily intake: Vitamin C, Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and other supplements.  I also plan to prepare fresh fruit juices as I know drinking too much soft-drinks won’t do me any good.  However, there will come a time that I’ll be so busy that I wouldn’t be able to prepare.  Now, I have an alternative!  For those hectic days, I’ll just get myself some Smart C+ Juice Drinks and I’m good-to-go for the day.

I tried all three flavors, and Lemon Squeeze is my favorite among all of them.  It was an obvious choice as I like lemonade a lot 😛  After I drank Smart C+, I felt that I have taken a healthy product that would help me boost my immune system, thus helping me get through the day.

I have plans to seriously study cooking & baking in the near future.  I’ve been preparing for it – carefully choosing the stove I would buy, ensuring the design of my new kitchen will fit my goal and thinking of recipes to learn.

One thing that I want to start doing is to eat healthy.  I’ve been struggling on that part.  I super love to eat (as frequent readers of this blog would know)!  I want to take baby steps and not change drastically.  For now, I wanted to start with changing the ingredient that would give me the most calories: sugar.

I decided to understand the health benefits of Splenda.

Splenda is a famous healthy alternative sweetener that a lot of establishments have been using already.  I remember that I always choose natural brown sugar over Splenda when drinking coffee.  Actually, I never dared try Splenda.  I tend to think that anything artificial isn’t good.  But considering my plans to bake cakes and to prepare sweet shakes which will surely need a lot of sugar, I have to think of an alternative, or else I would be getting diabetes (yaiks)!

I’m impulsive!  Whenever I think of something, I want to do it ASAP.  It’s especially dangerous when I have an urge to get myself a gadget (which always happens).  Good thing that my urge today is more for my health and my well-being..

As soon as I got off work, I went straight to SaveMore Supermarket to get myself a box of Splenda.

I then started researching on the product, reading the label as well as checking the official Splenda Website.  Discovering that Splenda can cut 3/4 of the calories that comes from natural sugar just by substituting it is really, really super nice!  That means it’s actually better than brown sugar!  I’ll try this for a few months and see if it’ll work for me.

I also stumbled upon Splenda Philippines’ Facebook Page.  A lot of tips and recipes are shared through the page.  I even saw an article that there’s actually a dessert place called Classic Confections that uses Splenda for its desserts!  I liked the page as I wanted to refer to it once I’m ready to start cooking and baking.

I digged through the internet to see what really makes up Splenda.  With those information, I’m convinced to give it a chance and to try it out.

Sucralose has no caloric content, and Splenda products have a lower caloric content than sugar.  The actual caloric content of a single-serving (1-gram packet) of Splenda is 3.36 calories, 31% of the calories of a single-serving (2.8-gram packet) of granulated sugar (10.8 calories).  In the United States, it is legally labelled “zero calories”;  U.S. FDA regulations allow this “if the food contains less than 5 calories per reference amount customarily consumed and per labeled serving”. 

Further, Splenda contains a relatively small amount of sucralose, little of which is metabolized; virtually all of Splenda’s caloric content derives from the dextrose or highly fluffed maltodextrin “bulking agents” that give Splenda its volume.  Like other carbohydrates, dextrose and maltodextrin have 3.75 calories per gram.

What this means is that the body does not recognize Splenda.  Even if you sweeten with Splenda everyday, you can enjoy the sweet taste.  Your body will just remove it when you pee or go to the bathroom.

Unlike other alternative sweeteners (e.g., Equal, Palsweet), sucralose is heat stable up to 450 °F (232 °C) so Splenda can be used as a replacement for table sugar in cooking and baking, and there are Splenda products packaged specifically for this purpose.
