Usual Extra Things You can Do in Boracay

There are 4 things people do in Boracay whenever they find time, they are the ff.:

  • Hair Braid

Have you always wanted to have a hairdo like the ones being done by the Africans, Blacks, etc? I’m sure we do, they look good and look really tedious to do… So it’s not a common thing for us since it’s expensive to do here and it’s hard to maintain.

It’s quite common in Boracay and I said to myself that one day before we go home, I’ll definitely try it out.

The girl told me that doing it will cost me around Php200-250, I said that it’s too expensive and haggled till we both agreed that I’ll pay Php150 for the hairdo. Wow, it really took almost 30minutes to do. But I’m definitely satisfied. The girl who did this is really good, I’m impressed.

  • Henna Tattoo

I believe this is the most popular from the 4. Both guys and girls will have tattoos on their arms, back, legs & abdomen area. The price ranges from Php100-200 depending on the size of the tattoo.

Last christmas when I was in Boracay, there really wasn’t much people there and business is quite bad. While I was walking in the beach, a person asked me if I like to have a henna tattoo and he’ll give 50% discount. Ofcourse, I agreed. I only paid Php100 for the tattoo. I’m very satisfied.

The tattoo lasted for about 2 weeks. Worth it.

  • Glitter Tattoo

Another version of tattoo is the Glitter one. I think mostly girls will want to do this. It’s pretty “kikay” in a way. And it is more expensive than the henna one. It looks good on the 1st day but after that, ugghhh.

The 1st thing they do is to ask if you put on lotion, if yes, they will need to put alcohol and remove it coz the glue won’t stick with the lotion on your skin. 2nd, they’ll put the pattern on the area where you want the tattoo to be on. Next, they’ll put glue then they’ll put the glitters and lastly clean it up.

Mine (arm) costs Php150 and my mom (hand) also has one, hers costs Php100.

  • Body Massage
My mom and her friends had their massages and it costs about Php250-300 per person. It takes about an hour. I’m not fond of massages coz it tickles hahahaa so no pictures here sorry

A friend and I went to this place for dinner before we had our Billiard Match (Yes, serious, I wanna beat him and have that victory — news? I did win!! hahahahaha). We have chosen Zao coz 1st it has soup (my friend was craving for it) & because it’s new.

The place is nice, cozy & looks classy. The color combination & the design is pretty cool as well, very inviting.

Anyway, here are what we ordered:

  • Deep-Fried Catfish with a Spicy Ginger Sauce (Php 195)
securedownload-4

yummy! Though I’m not really fond of taking the fish meat out of its bones hehehe. So tedious! I like this dish and I think this is the only main dish that I ate.

We also ordered the beef stew (picture below). I wasn’t able to take note of the price of it hahaa so can’t put the price but I guess this is because it is forgettable for me. 1st taste of the beef is good but after 3 bites, I didn’t like it anymore hehe.

  • Bottomless Iced Tea (Php 95)
securedownload-1

available in 3 flavors – Jasmine, Lychee & Tamarind. I tried the tamarind and it tasted good, love it

  • Seafood Pho (Php225)
securedownload-3

A soup that has prawns, calamari, fish fillet, fish balls, fresh vegetables & rice noodle. I don’t know if this is the cafe’s specialty but I believe that it is. Coz it tasted good and looks really unique & vietnamese. Also served with this condiments (picture below)

  • Steamed Jasmine Rice (Php55)
securedownload-6

Just a simple steamed rice but they serve the better type of rice so it’s all good.

Overall, it’s a good experience. This might not be one of my favorites but it’s okay, reasonably priced & they serve nice food.

Suzhou Dimsum

My mom’s friend opened this place in Gandara. We went there to meet with my mom’s best friend and ate there for lunch.

We tried out almost all their specialties and I must say, I’m very satisfied. I especially love the shallot oild pancake, yummy!!! Too bad I hate going to Binondo.. but if there’s a chance, I’ll go back there.

We ordered the ff.:

  • Green Mongo Congee (Php35)
IMG_1487

My mom ordered this while waiting for auntie Nancy to arrive. I tried it but didn’t like it. I guess I’m just not fond of this kind of congee served hot. I think this could have been delicious if served very cold hehehe. I don’t know.. just my thinking

  • Wong Lo Kat Herbal Tea (Php40)
IMG_1484

This is definitely one of my favorite beverages. This is only served in a few chinese restaurants though. But this is definitely good, everyone should try it. Super yummy!!

  • Spicy Beans Minced Pork (Php140)
IMG_1493

Chinese sitaw they say…. I tried this the 1st time at Sze Chuan House in Roxas Blvd and I’m hooked. So delicious & good. Other restaurant that I know has this dish is Pho Hoa. I love Suzhou Dimsum’s version as well. I can eat this like every week. Yummy!

  • Xiao Long Pao (Php80)
IMG_1495

This is their specialty and I agree that it is. Tasted very good & juicy as well.

  • Shallot Oiled Pancake (Php80)
IMG_1496

When you go to this place, don’t ever forget to order this one. I’m super over to the max pleasantly surprised on how good this dish is. I think I was able to eat like 4-5 slices of this (hopefully my mom’s friends don’t see this post, they’ll know that I was the one who finished the dish hahahaha )

  • Mustard Vegetable Fried Rice (Php120)
IMG_1492

People usually think that everyone doesn’t like vegetables. I was asked if I’m okay to eat vegetable rice and I said ofcourse! I love vegetables. They let me try this and I like it!! Healthy & delicious.

  • Stewed Squid with 3-Cup Sauce (Php240)
IMG_1498

This is a funny one. We ordered one of this dish and the waitress thought that we ordered 3!!! How can 5 people eat 3 orders of this?? Then we realized in the end that when we said “squid 3-cup”, the waitress assumed that it’s 3 orders of squid. Funny. Good thing, the other table overheard and helped us by getting the 1 order.

Overall, a pretty decent place. If only they’ll open this in Quezon City, I’ll definitely dine there.

Dinner at Pho Hoa Vietnamese Noodle House

My mom wanted to eat at Pho Hoa before going back to Taiwan and we ate there for dinner sometime last December.

Pho Hoa is famous for its noodles which is very good I believe. That time, I wasn’t hungry. I guess we were just eating almost whole day that I didn’t have space anymore in my stomach hahahaha.

Here are what we ordered:

  • Fried Rice Paper Roll w/ Lettuce Wrap (Php150)
IMG_1507

I LOVE this!!!! You have to order this when you go to this restaurant. I was just enjoying this dish that I forgot to wrap them in lettuce leaves… so I ended up eating the rest with lots of lettuce hehe.

  • Pho Bo Kho – Large (Php265)
IMG_1510

Beef Stew Noodle Soup.. looks really yummy!!! I’ll try this when I go to Pho Hoa next time.

  • Pho Nam, Chin, Gan, Bo Bien – Small (Php200)
IMG_1508

This is noodles in soup with the combination of Flank, Brisket, Tendon & Meatball. My mom loved it…

  • Coke Light (Php55)
IMG_1504

Whenever we order noodles, we are given condiments like the one below. It depends on how we want to incorporate it into our meal. But I don’t usually eat it, I guess I just don’t know the right way to eat vietnamese noodles hehehe.

IMG_1502

This is definitely one of the better restaurants out there. I especially love their “san ji tow” (chinese sitaw), best to eat with rice… yummy!

Gerry’s Grill

As soon as we get to the airport from Boracay, we were really starving!! This is because PAL express doesn’t serve food nor water in the airplane, maybe it’s because it’s a budget airplane.

Since we were with taiwanese peeps, we will need to bring them to a restaurant that serves filipino food. So the 1st thing that came to mind is Gerry’s Grill.

They loved it a lot, they were very vocal on how they enjoyed the food, etc.
I, on the other hand, has been eating filipino food ever since when so nothing really special for me hehe.

Here are what we ordered:

  • Crispy Pata (Php 415)
IMG_1274

All-time favorite… I ate the skin yummy!

  • Sizzling Kangkong (Php 130)
IMG_1267

This tasted good as well..

  • Sinigang na Bangus Belly (Php 210)
IMG_1269

Honestly, each dish tasted good so we’re all satisfied… this one’s my mom’s favorite.

  • Garlic Rice (Php 34)
IMG_1265

  • Sizzling Sisig (Php 170)
IMG_1266

This is another favorite… yummy yummy yummy!

  • Inihaw na Pusit – 500g (Php 305)
IMG_1271

I just ordered one but the restaurant mistakenly served us 2. We were still able to finish them all so it’s a blessing in disguise.

  • Buko Juice (Php 75)
IMG_1260

My mom wanted to drink fresh buko juice and good thing this is available at Gerry’s Grill.

  • Green & Yellow Mango Shake (Php 75 each)
