中和市興南觀光夜市 Zhong He Night Market

After dinner, my mom and I went ahead and walked around the 中和市興南觀光夜市 (Zhong He night market).

The luggage that I brought with me to Taipei at the time wasn’t big enough to put the PS3 that I brought.  So I was set to buy an additional luggage for the machine.

As what other night markets in Taiwan have, 中和市興南觀光夜市 has shops, food stalls, even arcade! Bargains anywhere… the things are just cheap!  I bought pajamas at 100NT only (that’s a whole set composed of blouse & pants, mind you).

Of all the night markets in Taipei that we visited, I think this has the least number of people.  I guess because it wasn’t located at the city proper.  This is already at the farthest part of Taipei.  I just realized that shopping is far more comfortable with less people! hahahaha!

There was a shop that caught my eye.  I was looking at it with awe hehehe.  My mom explained that the shop where we could freely rent a squared space for a certain amount and we can sell anything in that space.  I bet the one who rented the squared-shaped spaces are all young people.  The things they sell were sooooo cute!

Before I forget, I was able to buy a new luggage which looked like a Burberry bag & for only 480NT!!  It is really elegant looking 🙂

Before my mom & I head for the night market.  I accompanied her to dinner first.  Since I just ate my meal at Gate One cafe, I ended up watching mom eat a super yummy meal (Of course, do you have to ask?  I took pictures).

A lot of people frequent this restaurant and upon observing for quite some time, I saw that this place started way back in 1968.  Wow!  They are famous for their chicken w/ rice.

Guess what my mom ordered?  Ofcourse their specialty: 燒雞腿飯 Chicken Leg Rice.
For just 70NT, we were able to have the chicken leg, rice, fishball soup & vegetable side dish.

Such a treat right?  Overly affordable & delicious!  I just hope we have this place here in Manila.  Oh well…

Farsi Famous Persian Grill

——————–
Late last night, a friend of mine accompanied me for dinner at Farsi.  It was already 11pm as I had a conference call that ended 10pm.  I was too hungry that I wanted to eat something that I like.  Since I’m fond of Persian food, I tried this.

The restaurant was well-hidden hahaha!  We had to look for it.  For those who wanted to try this out, Farsi is located at the back of Alba Resturant (along Tomas Morato).

The design of the restaurant is unique.  There were paintings related to the theme.  There was also television available for guests to watch.  There was also free wifi provided as well (just need to ask for the password) 😛

We ordered the ff.:

  • Fish Tehran (Php 140)

A twist to the usual fish fillet, this dish had two marinated breaded fish fillet topped with honey mustard sauce.  The fish was good even though I felt that it was peppery.  The dish was served with biryani rice that made it an authentic Persian food.

  • Bottled Mountain Dew (Php 25)

Okay, I’m sorry, I can’t help it!  It has been such a long time since I last saw a bottle of mountain dew hehehehe 😛  This used to be my favorite when I was little 😛

  • Ripe Mango Shake (Php 50)
4053343458_856773ebe2

This was your typical mango shake but I felt that too much ice was put in.
I had brain freeze!!!

  • Beef Roadway Footlong (Php 135)
4052602639_59f6731fc5

This is Farsi’s version of the famous footlong hotdogs. hahahaha.  Of course, theirs is a kebab!  A 12-incher chelo kebab served with biryani rice.

You can choose either beef or chicken.  Chicken is five pesos cheaper.  I ordered beef of course, as I have always loved beef kebabs.

It was a bit hard to bite, but I found it was still juicy inside and delicious.  I just wish it wasn’t so hard to bite though.

Another that stuck to my mind was their excellent service.  The waiter waited for me to take pictures then when we were about to leave, he came out and assisted us as our car was backing out of the parking area.

After eating, I realized how much I missed Hossein & Arya Persian Restaurants.  I will definitely go there very soon.

I spent practically the whole day at this coffee shop during one of those days I was in Taiwan.  My mom wasn’t in the mood to go out and just wanted to rest that day.  I didn’t want to tour around alone so I decided to just go online.  Good thing, ä¸€è™Ÿå‡ºå£ Gate One Cafe Shop has free internet available for all their guests.

I entered around 11AM, the server was still arranging the table & stuff hahaha!  She let me in and apologized as she need to finish setting up the place.

I browsed through their menu and noticed the sign that they have.

The set menu was 170NT.  It included the ff.:

  • Soup
  • Side Dishes (Vegetables & Tofu)
  • Main Dish w/ Rice (Choice of Pork, Beef, Fish)
  • Drink (Choice of Green or Red Tea, Add 20NT for Coffee)

For brunch, I ordered their sweet and sour pork set menu.  I must say that i was impressed!  The beef was just so tender and the sauce!!!  It was perfect!!   I truly enjoyed my meal and was able to finish some task online.  The serving was pretty generous too!!

People frequent this place even though it isn’t really located at the city proper.  The coffee shop has this welcoming effect.  Their Internet is free but plugging in your device will cost you 10NT per hour.  I spent around 7 hours in this place but I was charged only 50NT.

At around 4-5PM, I started to get hungry (again).  The owner offered to cook my food herself and offered their fried rice.  It wasn’t on the menu but she recommended it.  It was 150NT w/ soup & drink.  I chose beef this time.  I felt there was too much pepper in the dish but it was good.  I liked the sweet & sour pork though.  😛

Real Living Room by Room Makeover Book Launch

RLMAKEOVERCOVER

Last friday, I attended the Real Living’s Room by Room Makeover Book Launch.  I was really excited to attend this event as I have wanted to renovate our house.

I have been struggling for months to renovate my house due to water leaks in my upstairs bathroom.  To repair would be substantial & so I’ve been looking for better ways to fix it.

Real Living is a magazine that gives its readers makeovers to their home.  Now, they came up with a book that compiled amazing room-by-room transformations w/ before & after pictures.

In partnership w/ Robinson’s Handyman, Real Living Room by Room Makeover book was launched at Robinson’s Ermita.

4036609087_cb3e6678fc

Real Living managing director Tisha Alvarez-Angluben gave a talk on how NOT to win a makeover.

4037345642_67e5387b6b

I remember specifically these items which she noted like providing pictures of:

  • an empty space
  • intentionally messed up space/area

Designer Hannah Acab-Faustino discussed instant makeovers & shared spaces.  She showed us some before & after pictures as well as how she designed to make it look so good.

4036597479_d31c29a61d

My takeaway from this talk are these steps to a successful home makeover:
R – Re-think
E – Establish
D – Design
O – Order

Pictures from the event can be found here.

For just Php120, the book will definitely give you lots of tips on space planning, organizing, color schemes and a lot more.  The Do-It-Yourself projects will show us how we can transform our home even with just a short amount of time & money.  Now available at bookstores & newsstands.  I have a copy myself! 🙂
