Valentine Royal Feast at the Cheese Steak Shop

Valentine Royal Feast at the Cheese Steak Shop

Who says Valentine’s can only be celebrated on February 14th?  Well, The Cheese Steak Shop located in Makati has a month-long Valentine promo for lovers out there.  But wait, it’s not only for couples.  Love for friends, love for family and mutual love for food can be celebrated too!

My friend’s birthday happens to be on February so I decided to invite her for lunch.  To make it special, I brought her to The Cheese Steak Shop to partake on the Valentine Royal Feast promo of the international franchise.

As the tagline of The Cheese Steak Shop goes, “Caution: May be Habit Forming!“.  It’s true!  You see, after having visited The Cheese Steak Shop, I couldn’t resist but visit it yet again.

Cheese Steak Shop Ambiance

We went to the counter and asked for the Valentine Royal Feast.  We were told what items are included in the promo.  These are 1 King of Philly, 1 Queen of Philly, Unlimited Valentine Dessert Buffet, 2 Specialty Drinks and 1 Teddy Bear.  You get to see more of what we had as you continue to read this blog post 🙂

While we waited for our orders to arrive, my friend was playing games on the touch screen monitor near the counter.  It’s funny that I didn’t even know it existed in Cheese Steak Shop!  That was a cool feature of The Cheese Steak Shop!

Cheese Steak Shop Games

I, on the other hand, being a romantic (in spite of being single), went to the Cheesy Cheesy Lines section near the entrance.  It was fun reading the thoughts of the people who posted and shared their cheesy lines! hahaha!  Some were romantic, some funny and some utterly corny!

Cheese Steak Shop Cheesy Cheesy Lines

My favorite was this post that says, “I lost my number.  Can I have yours?“.  Yiheeeeeeee!  That’s an awesome pick-up line :))

Cheese Steak Shop Love Note

When we got back to our table, our orders started to come in.  February is almost at an end but you still have a few days to catch the Valentine Royal Feast of The Cheese Steak Shop.  For only Php 1,500 per couple, you get high-quality food and a souvenir!

2 Specialty Drinks

Cheese Steak Shop Special Drink

The specialty drink that the Cheese Steak Shop prepared is a combination of 7-up soft drink with strawberry syrup.  You can also opt to just get the normal soda.  Your choice 🙂

1 King of Philly

Roch at Cheese Steak Shop

I got the King of Philly which is a 10-inch Cheese Steak Sandwich with 50% more beef and cheese compared to the normal Philly Cheesesteak sandwich.

Cheese Steak Shop King of Philly

I didn’t ask for the peppers and onions to be removed as I wanted to have the complete experience.  I also believed that those ingredients would make the taste more delicious than usual.

King of Philly Ingredients

It was a HUGE sandwich.  I couldn’t believe that I actually finished all that!  The meat was just overwhelming!  As you can see in the photo above, the sandwich was filled with generous amount of beef!  It was the best Cheese Steak sandwich I have eaten so far!

1 Queen of Philly

Maus at Cheese Steak Shop

My good friend Maus got the Queen of Philly which is a 7-inch Chicken Sandwich with 50% more meat and cheese than normal chicken sandwich.  The difference between the Queen of Philly from the King of Philly are the main ingredient (beef vs chicken) and the size of the sandwich (10-inch vs 7-inch).

Cheese Steak Shop Queen of Philly

If I’m to choose, I would have chosen the 7-inch as the 10-inch was just too big for me! hahaha!  I asked my friend if she liked the chicken sandwich (it was her first time at The Cheese Steak Shop).  She said it was really good and she liked the bread a lot.

Cheese Steak Shop Amoroso Bread Rolls

I then told her that The Cheese Steak Shop is using Amoroso’s Bread & Rolls which are imported from Philadelphia.  That’s how serious The Cheese Steak Shop in Manila is in bringing the authentic Philly Cheesesteak to us.

Unlimited Valentine Dessert Buffet

The Cheese Steak Shop Dessert Bar

We were too full already after eating those yummy sandwiches so we ended up just tasting a few of the dessert items that Cheese Steak Shop has prepared.

Cheese Steak Shop Desserts

For people who have big appetite then I’m sure you’ll get yourselves a handful of brownies, chocolates, pudding and pastillas.  You can have unlimited servings of them and it’s more than enough to satisfy your sweet cravings.

I, on the other hand, just got myself the strawberry pudding and the pastillas.  If you happen to be there last monday lunch time, you would have noticed that there were no more pastillas left.  I kinda finished every single pastillas in the dessert buffet table.  Forgive me 😛

1 Teddy Bear

Cheese Steak Shop Bear

We get to bring home a teddy bear!  We can choose between 3 colors: dark brown, white and light brown.  I’ve chosen the dark brown as I have a big white teddy bear already at home.

Harrod's Bear

It is important to note that the souvenir is not a normal souvenir.  As I examined the bear, I noticed that it’s actually a branded teddy bear.  If you’ve heard of Harrods, a department store in London, then you would know that this stuffed bear is of high-quality.

If you’re on a date, then your partner will love the Harrods Teddy Bear.  It’ll be a great Valentine’s gift!  Cute, sweet and nice! 🙂

The Valentine Royal Feat at The Cheese Steak Shop does not have the usual romantic set-up (dimly-lit with candle-light arrangement).  However, a lot of people like the casual ambiance and The Cheese Steak Shop has exactly that.  Only one week left for the promo, there’s still enough time for you to catch up!

Temple Run Tournament at Beyond the Box

Temple Run Tournament at Beyond the Box

I’ve been seeing tweets posted by friends sharing their scores at Temple Run.  At first, I ignored them.  However, more and more people are tweeting about it.  I became curious!  What is Temple Run and why is everyone tweeting about it?

So I checked out the link to one of the Temple Run tweets.  Then I found out that Temple Run is an iOS game!  I immediately downloaded Temple Run and played for a few minutes.  I realized then that I couldn’t stop so I played and I played till I got a decent score that I could share with friends.

Temple Run is basically just a simple game.  The character you’re playing, a hero, gets his hands on the treasure but has to run his way through a maze in order to get out alive.  It’s an endless but exciting game.  If you have an iOS device, I suggest you download it.  I have to give you an early warning that Temple Run is addicting 😛

Current Temple Run players can only brag about their high scores.  But wait, I have some good news to Temple Run addicts in the Philippines!

Beyond the Box, an Apple Premium Reseller in the Philippines, is holding a Temple Run Tournament.  They are giving away prizes for daily and weekly winners.  Plus, weekly winners will have a chance to compete at the Ultimate Run where they could win an iPod Touch 32GB!  How cool is that?

See Gaming Mechanics as follows (Promo runs till March 3, 2012):

Temple Run Tournament Beyond the Box Mechanics

No purchase is necessary, just go to any Beyond the Box branches (Rockwell & Resorts World), approach their staff about your participation to the Temple Run tournament and play your way for a chance to win cool prizes!

The Day When My Hair Turned Red

Roch New Cut and Red Hair

I have been thinking of dyeing my hair for over a year now.  Actually, it was written as one item in my bucket list.  I had planned to fulfill that item this year and now, it has been fulfilled.

Last February 6, 2012, I was contemplating of getting a haircut as I saw the damage of my hair.  My hair was full of split-ends and I must attribute it to the rebonding & digital perm treatments that I’ve underwent yearly.

Of course, there’s this urge to have a new hairstyle at the start of every year.  I must admit that sometimes I’m impulsive.  I tweeted that day to ask where I can get a good haircut.  A fellow blogger, Jean, tweeted back that she highly recommends Abel Pineda.  Jean also sent me his number so I can contact Abel.  She was giving Abel high praises and since I believe in her taste (she’s a very pretty lady), I went for it!

Abel is currently the senior creative director of Stetica Hair and Beauty Spa.  It’s located near the place where I work so it was pretty accessible.  I drove to Greenbelt and parked there then I exited at Greenbelt 5 as Stetica Hair and Beauty Spa is located across the mall.

stetica hair and beauty spa

As I entered the salon, I was pleasantly surprised as the ladies at the reception had their big smile as they welcome me to Stetica.  They were expecting me!  Now, that’s impressive!  What a good first impression!  I texted Abel and he informed the salon of my reservation.  I didn’t have to wait anymore and I was immediately escorted to my seat.  Iced tea, coffee or tea were offered.

I asked for Stetica’s rate card and I saw that their prices are pretty decent.  Haircut for girls by a senior creative director costs Php600 while hair color ranges from Php 1,500 above (depending on hair length).

I told Abel that I was feeling adventurous.  I let him decide the hairstyle that will suit my face.  I told him that I’m also interested in getting a new hair color.  He quickly assessed my hair and suggested that I get a layered hair plus 2 hair color treatments (permanent hair color + highlights).

Total bill are as follows:

  • Hair Cut (Php 600)

Roch haircut

I was a bit uncomfortable with full bangs.  I distinctly remember when I had my haircut 2 years ago, I realized bangs doesn’t suit me at all.  Since Abel was known to be good (I also read some blogs about him), I decided to listen to his advice.  He’s the expert in hairstyling after all!

Abel Pineda was hands-on.  He was pretty careful too!  I noticed how he checked my hair whenever he cut some sections.  He was comparing the length from both sides to ensure consistency.  Explanation was given too as to why he chose to give me that hairstyle.  I was told that my hair is thin so he cut them into layers to provide volume.  Plus, the hairstyle will give me my much needed makeover.  A complete change from my usual simple long hairstyle.

  • Hair Coloring (Php 5,000)

roch hair color

I never dyed my hair so it was a huge change for me.  However, I know I should do it already as the white streaks of hair are pretty obvious already.  Yes, we do all get old and white hair will happen one time in our lives.

Abel suggested I get 2 hair color treatments.  Red color for the whole hair (Php 2,500) while the another shade of red for highlights (Php 2,500) for a total of Php 5,000.  I gave my consent and they started putting the hair color.  I was excited!  I knew that there’s one bucket list item that I can cross off.  Plus, red is my favorite color!

The hair color could give a boost the haircut that Abel gave me.  I had high hopes!

The whole process took about 4 hours.  Do I think it’s worth it?  YES!!!  I loveeeee my new hairstyle!  Well, the only uncomfortable thing is people greeting me in Korean and Japanese! hahaha!

Roch New Hairdo 2012

After this experience, I’ll surely go back to Abel Pineda for future hairstyling.  He’s definitely a talented man!  I now know why Jean was raving about him.  I, myself, is doing that as well!  Abel is highly recommended!  He makes you beautiful! 🙂

Stanley Chi’s Book: Suplado Tips 2

Stanley Chi’s Book: Suplado Tips 2

Well, what can I say?  Stanley Chi’s Suplado Tips has gone a long way.  In just a few months after Suplado Tips book was launched, UniSilver Time came out with a watch that was inspired by the book.  Both the book and the watches are a huge successes.  So it wasn’t a big surprise when Stanley sent me his latest book, Suplado Tips 2, which is the second installation of Suplado Tips.

Stanley Chi Suplado

In less than a year, Stanley Chi already came up with the second book!  Wow!  Congrats Stan!  I guess people find it entertaining enough learning and practicing the different suplado tips that Stan has shared in his first book.  Maybe, they got themselves ladies chasing after them because they gained confidence by being a suplado?  Well, there’s one thing I know for sure.  Stanley has his own suplada girl!

Now, how timely is that the Suplado Tips 2 book is launching this love month!  The suplado guys need more pointers and they should be more fierce than the ones shared in the first installment of the book.  Well, I’m sure the second book will be able to satisfy their need.  I read the book – Suplado Tips 2 and I must say, Stanley Chi has definitely leveled up!  The tips shared are more ‘suplado-er’.  If I’m a guy, I will have second thoughts using those tips.  Maybe, just maybe, true suplado guys are the ones who can actually pull those off!

Here are some of the Suplado Tips shared on the book sequel:

Suplado Tips 2

What I like about the Suplado Tips 2 is that aside from the usual suplado tips, Stan has added tons of stuff.  Stuff like comic strips, slum book, photographs, tips from the fans, suplado/suplada stories and the funniest or cutest of them all is the Suplado Society of the Philippines I.D.! hahahaha!

So you wanna level up your being suplado?  Then head on over to Fully Booked and National Bookstore outlets nationwide to get your copy of Stanley Chi’s newest book, Suplado Tips 2 (Php 95).  You can also get the book online through PSICOM Publishing.

Marriott Manila Introduces Newly-Revamped Sunday Brunch

Marriott Manila Sunday Brunch

I rarely go to Pasay area as I live far away so when I got an invite to try out the newly revamped sunday brunch of Marriott Hotel, I had to decline it.  However, I don’t know what struck me but I decided to just go anyway.  Why would I miss the chance to try out Marriot Hotel’s very own food buffet?  I had to try it out!  Forget about driving far if an enormous amount of good food is waiting for me!

Call time was at 11AM.  I arrived 11:30AM and saw several bloggers already enjoying their food.  As much as I wanted to dive in and eat already, I wanted to take pictures first so that I can share my experience with you.  I went around Marriott Cafe and noticed the beautiful ambiance of the place.  Marriott Cafe has awesome design!  It was bright, classy and huge!!!

marriott cafe ambiance

I was glad I saw Yedy (one of my favorite bloggers).  I sat beside her and chatted away while we enjoyed the food at Marriott Cafe.

Mcafe roch and yedy

We, of course, chose to sit beside the juice section!  hahaha!  Talk about right positioning.  Hotels usually don’t offer unlimited juices in their food buffet so I was pleasantly surprised that Marriott Cafe included them.  M Cafe (another name for Marriott Cafe) has 2 juice stations and each station has a type of iced tea and milk shake!

marriott drinks

Bloody Mary Bar

Our enjoyment that we sat beside the juice station was quickly overshadowed when we found the new Martini Bar!!!  Oh my gosh, this is heaven for people who love cocktails and alcohol!  Well, yeah, noontime might not be a good time to drink alcohol but boy, this martini bar was a huge hit among the guests that day.

CRU Steak House

There were 2 sections in Marriott Cafe sunday brunch that I couldn’t forget.  One was the CRU Steak House which is a different place altogether.  It has its own dining area.  I guess if you want to have a more private dining experience then you might opt to sit in the CRU Steak House.

marriott cafe ambiance 2

Steaks, steaks and steaks!  I wouldn’t miss it for the world!  The sunday brunch price of Php 2,000 is super worth it even by just eating the steaks at CRU Steak House.  It is important to note that Marriott Manila only features grass-fed Angus beef from Australia, how awesome!

Dessert

Last, but definitely not the least is the dessert.  They have the usual ice cream and yogurt with condiments to boot.  BUT, the MUST-VISIT at Marriot Cafe is their Chocolate Room!

marriott dessert

Chocolate Room

Every single person in the planet LOVES chocolates!  I may be an exception as I only eat white chocolates but this new offering by Marriott Manila is a clear foodie pleaser!

Imagine a room full of chocolates!  Right at the center of the room is the chocolate fondue with condiments like fruits, marshmallows, etc.

marriott chocolate fondue

On the side is a wide selection of chocolate cakes.  I actually took a moment to admire the beautiful, cute and lovely designs of each cake.  There were raspberry ganache pound cake, milk chocolate mouse with caramel gelee, and Maracaibo chocolate cheesecake, chocolate croustillant, apple chocolate gianduja, white chocolate panna cotta with raspberry, and triple chocolate mouse.

marriott chocolate cakes

I took a big bar of white chocolate.  Do you know that those big bars are 100% Belgian chocolate?  Enjoy unlimited servings of rocky road, almond chocolate, nuts and fruit chocolate.  We were all in chocolate heaven in the chocolate room.  I think I entered the room more than 10 times that sunday.  I couldn’t help it!

marriott chocolate 2

There’s also white chocolate chip brownies, manjari chocolate bar, chocolate pecan tart, macaroon chocolate gianduja, chocolate nougat, chocolate heart bon bon, and chocolate truffles.  So many to choose from!!

marriott chocolate 1

I was completely shocked when I saw the chocolate chef!!  My first reaction was why did Marriott Manila have to put a person and bathe them with chocolates?  When I got to talk to the chocolate chef, she told me that she actually enjoyed it.  She said it was like getting a chocolate spa.  I guess I have to take her word for it!  Boy, she definitely got all our attention.  Everyone wanted to have a photo op with the chocolate chef.  Well, she has to be there to welcome all of us to chocolate heaven.  What an unforgettable experience!

chocolate statue

I might have shared so many sections of the sunday brunch at the Marriott Cafe but in actuality, I missed some of the sections like the Yakitori, sashimi & wicked rolls and the tandoor.  Imagine how big the sunday brunch is!  You’ll never run out of food.  The only issue you’ll have is the limitation that your body can take.  I wish our stomach have unlimited storage too!

I guess Marriott Manila decided to offer it as brunch as with the amount of food that they’re offering.  It’s not possible for us to take all those food in if we already had our breakfast.  The sunday brunch is available at Marriott Cafe every sundays from 11:30AM to 3PM at Php 2,000 per person.

mcafe

But wait, there’s entertainment too as Mr. Clown roams around Marriott Cafe joking around with guests.  I enjoyed my few minutes with him taking pictures.  He was such a lively, hyperactive clown, hahaha!
