Market Cafe at Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila

Market Cafe at Hyatt Manila

After sampling yummy dim sum dishes at Li Li Restaurant, we went down to the 3rd floor to have our lunch buffet at the Market Cafe.  It was my first time at Market Cafe in Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.  I was expecting a huge selection of food but it turned out that Market Cafe opted for quality instead of quantity.  It makes a lot of sense as we can’t really eat so much food in one sitting.

I actually thought it was a bad idea that we had a lot of food already at Li Li.  I wanted to stay at Market Cafe and eat much more food especially the seafood but my stomach couldn’t handle it anymore.  I must have been bad yesterday as gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins.. but good food is something we cannot resist!  Market Cafe definitely has them!

I’ll make sure that if I visit Market Cafe in Hyatt Manila next time, I’ll go there super early like 10 minutes before they start the buffet.  I want to have as much time as possible to enjoy the wonderful dishes that Market Cafe serves.

Market Cafe Hyatt Ambiance

Enjoy the pictures as I share the different stations included in the buffet of Market Cafe in Hyatt Manila.  I have my personal favorites, get to know them.. read on! 🙂

Bread Station

Market Cafe Hyatt Assorted Breads

Homemade breads baked by Market Cafe’s chefs.  There were lots of selections but I ended up skipping the bread station as I had my eyes locked on seafood! haha!

Cheese Station

Market Cafe Hyatt Cheese

The cheese station offered a selection of cheeses and condiments.  Perfect with bread.

Salad Station

Market Cafe Hyatt Salad

The Salad bar had fresh market produce with varied homemade salad dressings such as blue cheese, yogurt-citrus, Caesar, thousand island, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing and toppings such as diced fruits, cucumber, bacon bits, Parmesan cheese and potato marbles.

Pizza Station

Market Cafe Hyatt Pizza Cook

Market Cafe Hyatt Pizza

Market Cafe offered a variety of Pizzas and they were newly cooked!  I feel so bad now that I wasn’t able to even taste it as I was too full to take in more food 🙁  I’ll surely be back and I won’t miss pizza next time!

Chinese Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Noodles

Market Cafe Hyatt Chinese Station

As soon as I saw the roasted chicken on display, I already knew I was in the Chinese section.  As expected, there was a lot of food selections like noodles, dim sum, roast duck, soy chicken and more.

Indian Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Curry Station

Popular dishes from India included curry and that is what you can expect in Market Cafe’s Indian section.  There were roti bread and other Indian dishes too!

Japanese Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Tempura

The reason why I find Market Cafe Buffet very unique is because there are some sections where the chef will gladly cook for your food and serve to your table.  One of them is the tempura selection in the Japanese section.  You can have either shrimp tempura, veggie tempura and squid calamari freshly cooked!  You might have to wait for a few minutes but once you’ve eaten them, you’ll surely be satisfied!

Mongolian Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Mongolian

You love Mongolian food?  Market Cafe has it covered for you 🙂

Carving Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Prime Rib

A buffet favorite: Prime rib will never be absent, and I found it immediately at the carving station of Market Cafe.  I asked that my prime rib be cooked well-done (my preference).  I’m really scared of blood! 😛

Grilling Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Grilling Station

Market Cafe Hyatt grilling selections

Market Cafe Hyatt BBQ Selections

The grilling section offered a wide range of meats for cook to order.  I appreciate that Market Cafe chose to offer this labor-intensive section just to be sure that we get to enjoy the food the way that we want them to.  Offerings include pork and chicken skewers, tanigue fillet, lamb chops, liempo and blue marlin.  Most of the seafood here were raw, so you could pick what you wanted and have them cooked to order.

Seafood Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Other seafood

Market Cafe Hyatt Seafood

The seafood section served fresh prawns, lobsters, mussels, fishes, clams and oysters on ice.  You can ask the chef to cook it the way you want whether fried, steamed, grilled or whatever.  It’s your decision!

I have to talk more about this section because this was my favorite yesterday!  I consciously skipped some of the sections in the Market Cafe buffet in order to get more seafood!  You can just see the twinkle in my eyes (in the photo below) when I saw those baby lobsters that we can eat all we want!

Market Cafe Hyatt Roch with Lobsters

I tried those shrimps & lobsters cooked in three different ways:

cooked in butter garlic

Market Cafe Hyatt Butter Garlic Shrimps

Market Cafe Hyatt Lobsters

cooked Singaporean way

Market Cafe Hyatt Singaporean Shrimp

and cooked in sweet chili sauce

Market Cafe Hyatt Chili Shrimp

I loved all of them but my choice has got to be the butter garlic!  You can also ask the chefs to peel the shrimps for you just in case you get lazy (like me!) hehe.

Dessert Section

The way to end a beautiful satisfying meal is to have desserts.  Market Cafe surely knows how people LOVE their desserts!  They have this huge section to put all their yummy creations in!

This section is Pastry Chef Johann Dreisger’s baby.  He specializes in creating yummy high quality desserts and bread.  With over 25 years of experience, we were surely in for a treat!

Market Cafe Hyatt Dessert Bar

The dessert section featured homemade cakes, pastries, hot crepes and a chocolate fountain.  Not only that, Market Cafe also served our favorite Filipino delicacies which we rarely see in hotel buffets.  I was happy to get hold of sago’t gulaman but I felt it was too sweet for my taste.

Market Cafe Hyatt Desserts

Seasoned fruits were on display and for consumption.  You can eat all you want, you don’t even have to worry about eating it before or after the main meal, but if you ask me, eat fruits before the meal for better digestion 🙂

Market Cafe Hyatt Fruits

Halo Halo and Market Cafe’s bestselling homemade ice creams were available too!  I enjoyed putting the rainbow sprinkles over dalandan and cream cheese ice cream that I ordered!  My golly, those 2 ice cream flavors should not be missed!  It is important to note that the ice cream were made with high quality of ingredients – no preservatives and no artificial flavorings.

Market Cafe Hyatt Halo Halo

The “Hot Love Sundae” was brought out to our table and I must say it looked lovely!  It’s perfect for lovers dining inside Market Cafe.  The beautiful creation was made of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, hot raspberry sauce and chocolate lip.  Cuteness!

Market Cafe Hyatt Ice Cream

I usually skip all kinds of breads but I was told by a Hyatt manager to try out their dessert bread.  I was just so glad that I had a portion of it because it was really divine!  The flavors were just right on and it has the right sweetness that I rarely see in desserts like that.

Beverage Section

Market Cafe Hyatt Drinks

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this beverage container!  Dining guests of Market Cafe Buffet actually can get any of those soft drinks and local beers as much as we want!  Yes, they are free flowing and boy, do I love to get those Coca Cola cans in my hands 🙂  For guys, I’m sure they have their eyes on San Miguel beers.  How many can you consume?

Today is Mother’s day and as a souvenir, we got ourselves a box of Pastry Chef Johann Dreisger’s homemade Swiss Felchlin chocolate pralines to give to our moms.  My mom isn’t in the Philippines so I just took a picture of the chocolates and shared it to my mom.  I hope she’s having a good day today 🙂

Market Cafe Hyatt Mother's Day Gift

Overall, my first experience in Market Cafe was a good one!  I love the concept of having your food freshly cooked by the chef with the way we want them to.  I also love the free-flowing soft drinks and beers that the buffet offers.  Most of all, I super duper love the service!  I was just in awe on how cheerful, accommodating and friendly the staff are.  I didn’t have to call them for attention as they were proactive enough to know what we would ask for!  It was impressive.

I rarely go to Manila but if I do, Market Cafe will be one of my top choices for dining!

Dim sum at Hyatt Manila’s Li Li

Li Li Restaurant at Hyatt Manila

I had the privilege of trying out Li Li restaurant at the Hyatt Hotel Manila yesterday.  Li Li serves Cantonese cuisine and has been awarded quite a few times as one of the best restaurants in the Philippines by Philippine Tatler and Dineasia.  Currently, Li Li has also been nominated as one of the top 20 best restaurants in Asia by Miele!  Just wow!

I had to wait for the group to be complete so we couldn’t start eating yet.  I then decided to look around Li Li and appreciate its interiors.  The restaurant was named after a real person named Lili Ho.  Lili grew up in a high profile scene.  She loves elegant and sophisticated things.  That was pretty obvious as her love for arts and interior can be seen throughout the restaurant.

Li Li Restaurant is somewhat a resemblance of Lili’s home.  Each room signify a part of Lili’s life.  I’m really impressed as to how a restaurant like Li Li could have so much history and story behind it.  It was just beautiful!

First up is the dining area where most people usually dine at.

Li Li Hyatt Dining Area

The upper dining area has pictures/painting of Lili’s ancestors.  Having those pictures situated on the upper area signifies respect to the elders.

Li Li Hyatt Upper Dining Area

The library, on the other hand, is a place where the men hang out after dinner.  In this room, you’ll see Lili’s travel souvenirs displayed as well as her favorite art & travel books.

Li Li Hyatt Library

The latest room in Li Li restaurant is called the drawing room.  It was named as that because it’s a room that the ladies usually hang out in when their husbands are in the library room (a place where women would withdraw).  The drawing room has its own bathroom.

Li Li Hyatt Drawing Room

The tea bar is where all the selections of tea are displayed.  It’s also the place where the Gongfu tea ceremony usually happens.

A Gongfu tea ceremony is a presentation based on the tea preparation approach which originated in Fujian and Guangdong in the 1940s.  Gong fu cha means ‘skill’ or ‘capability’.  The ceremony is being done at Li Li to show guests how welcome they are at the restaurant.

Li Li Hyatt gong cha tea bar

Behind the tea bar are two rooms created in tribute to Lili’s daughters: Fei Fei and Bai Ling.  The rooms have the same design, they just have a bit of difference with chair fabric and art decorations.

Li Li Hyatt Daughter Rooms

Last, but not the least, is the Wine Cellar room which coincidentally was where we had our dim sum.

Li Li Hyatt Wine Cellar Room

I was already so starved when we sat at the table.  The excitement was over the top for me as I got a nice tour of Lili restaurant and my expectation just went up a notch!

Li Li Hyatt Dining

Boiled peanuts were served as appetizer.  I super duper love boiled peanuts and I don’t even know where I can buy those a la carte outside.  If I want more, I guess I have to come back at Li Li or cook them myself!

Li Li Hyatt Appetizer

For drinks, I highly suggest you order Hyatt Hotel’s guava iced tea!  I love the taste, I wish I can drink more but I knew then that I would be eating so much food that I can’t enjoy this iced tea too much.  Apart from guava, there’s dalandan iced tea and guyabano iced tea 🙂

Li Li Hyatt Guava Iced Tea

Before we started with our dim sum, we were presented with a Gongfu tea ceremony.  I was pretty excited about it since Gongfu was mentioned during our tour of the Li Li restaurant.  The ceremony was just about 10 minutes but it was impactful!  I found it super cool!

Li Li Hyatt Gongfu cha Ceremony

  1. warming the pot and heating the cups
  2. appreciate excellent tea
  3. the black dragon enters the palace
  4. rinsing from an elevated pot
  5. the spring wind brushes the surface
  6. bathe the immortal twice

You might be wondering what the steps I mentioned are but I highly suggest you go to Li Li at Hyatt Manila to see for yourself. 🙂  Gongfu tea ceremony is a very unique tradition that you rarely see in Chinese restaurants.

If you’re dining at Li Li for their dim sum all you can, you’ll be given a dimsum menu where you can check out the items that you want to order.  The food is cooked right after you order it.  With that in mind, you have to wait a bit for your food to arrive but it’ll be all worth it for sure!

Li Li Hyatt List of Dim sum

The price is Php 788 net for dim sum all you can from mondays to saturdays, 12noon to 3PM.  On sundays, Li Li serves the Sunday Yum Cha Dim sum Buffet.  It serves the usual dim sum all you can but this time the buffet comes with free-flowing iced tea, soft drinks and local beer as well as desserts.  Of course, no left-overs and no take out.

There were tons of dim sum selections in Li Li!  Considering we’ll be having our lunch buffet at Hyatt’s Market Cafe, we ended up sampling ten of Li Li’s dim sum bestsellers.

Our meal at Li Li was considered our appetizer but boy, it could be a meal in itself!

  • Har Gao – steamed shrimp and bamboo pith dumpling

Li Li Hyatt Shanghai style dumpling

  • Sio Mai – steamed pork and dried scallop dumpling

Li Li Hyatt siomai

  • Shanghai-style steamed pork and crab meat dumpling

Li Li Hyatt Xiao Long Pao

Don’t forget to use the spoon when eating this as you don’t wanna miss tasting the wonderful soup inside the dumpling!

  • Pan-fried shrimp and spinach dumpling

Li Li Hyatt spinach dumpling

My fav!

  • Deep-fried taro and assorted seafood dumpling

Li Li Hyatt taro dumpling

another favorite dim sum for me!  I appreciate the abundance of ingredients in each and every bite.  so tasty and so yummy!

  • Beijing-style wok-fried pork dumpling

lili hyatt dumpling

  • Deep-fried bicho-bicho, shrimp, wasabi-mayonnaise sauce

Li Li Hyatt Bicho-bicho

  • Lobster and asparagus dumpling

Li Li Shanghai Lobster and Asparagus

  • Glutinous dumpling, white chocolate, peanut

Li Li Hyatt white chocolate dumpling

I loved how the white chocolate oozes out of the dumpling when sliced or opened.

What a great way to start a food-filled day at the Hyatt Manila!  Each of us had an awesome time especially with the warm hospitality by Hyatt’s GM Richard Simmons, Director of Food & Beverage Ranjeet Rajebhosale, Marketing Communications Manager Loni Balagtas and Public Relations Coordinator Laurie Reyes!

Li Li Hyatt Grou Picture

It was my first time at Li Li and I must say the experience was truly memorable!  I didn’t even realize how meaningful each part of the restaurant is.  I felt like I met Lili Ho herself by just dining at Li Li restaurant!

Teleserv Citizen Services

Teleserv Citizen Services

We do almost anything online these days.  Things like paying bills, ordering food, and finding information about various kinds of stuff.  However, availing of government services has always been a pain for me as I have to put up with going to the office, the long lines and long processing times.

That was the problem that Pilipinas Teleserv, Inc. (Teleserv) is trying to address.  The company developed proprietary services for various Philippine government agencies that have improved the way citizens transact with government.

Teleserv Presentation

Teleserv is experienced in customer service activities with operations running 24/7, 365 days a year.  Connecting their expertise with the current need to improve government transactions paved the way for Citizen Services.

Filipinos can now be provided with efficient, cost-effective and convenient services as Teleserv partnered with some Philippine government agencies.  I tried this myself (read more of this experience in succeeding paragraphs) and I was completely satisfied and happy with the service.

Here are the three government agencies that partnered with Citizen Services:

  • National Statistics Office

Teleserv NSO Birth Certificate Delivery

Developed for the National Statistics Office (NSO).  This facilitates the application of Birth/ Marriage/ Death/CENOMAR Certificates by telephone and through the internet with a courier service for the delivery of the document requested by the applicant.

  • Department of Foreign Affairs

Teleserv DFA Express Passport Delivery

Developed for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).  It allows Filipino citizens the facility to avail of a more convenient and expeditious application process for new, expiring, and expired Philippine passports.  Applicants may set an appointment by going online through its dedicated website www.passport.com.ph or by calling the DFA Appointment Hotline 737-1000.  This service is free.

The system is designed to help eliminate long queues formed with the old walk-in system, as the applicants would be pre-processed using information given via hotline or online.

  • Philippine Overseas Employment Agency

Teleserv POEA Balik Manggagawa OEC Delivery

Developed for the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).  It provides Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) a convenient, hassle‐free application procedure for Overseas Exit Clearances while on vacation in the Philippines.

OEC processing comes with PHILHEALTH and OWWA membership updates.

Balik-Manggagawa OEC Delivery is available nationwide and is coupled with an inquiry hotline 737-7777.

An OEC Express Delivery booth is also situated inside the POEA Balik Manggagawa area to cater to OFWs who find themselves at the POEA.

Personal Experience with Teleserv Citizen Services

My mom used to be the one who would request for copies of my birth certificate so I didn’t really know the process and how convenient or hard it is.

However, as soon as I got the invite to the Teleserv event, I gave Citizen Services a try by ordering copies of my NSO birth certificates.

Teleserv Birth Certificate Experience

The process was completely awesome!  I was blown away by how easy and efficient the process is!

I just visited the Citizen Services website, answered a few questions, chatted with the call center agent (who was very helpful & friendly), paid the processing fee and in less than a week, I got the birth certificates delivered to me!

Knowledge is indeed power.  If I haven’t known about Teleserv’s services, I wouldn’t have experienced how easy it is already to apply for NSO certificates.  So here I am, sharing with you what I learned and experienced.

Getting NSO certificates, Passport appointments and OEC has become so much simpler with Teleserv Citizen Services!  I’ll surely avail of those services when I need them in the future.  Oh, and by the way, GSIS services will come soon on Teleserv Citizen Services.

Smart Live More Anthem

Smart Live More Anthem

Have you been wanting to know what song Smart used in its Live More Commercial ad?  I know I do as I like the message that Smart has been sharing with us through their Live More Campaign.

We’re in luck because Smart has finally released the full version of the song.  What’s cool is that Smart subscribers can download the song for free!

Do you know that Smart even commissioned international artists to make the song, “It’s Your Life” for Smart?  The two musicians worked across time zones to deliver the beautiful Smart Live More anthem.  While James Banbury (Hong kong) and Pete Davis (Sweden) have collaborated in the past for other popular brands such as Marriot Hotels, Tropicana and Cathay Pacific, the Component Music artists are also established musicians in their own right.

James was the cellist of truculent cult Brit-band The Auteurs.  He also arranged strings for U2, Depeche Mode and Snow Patrol while Pete wrote scores for films such as Moulin Rouge and Coyote Ugly and has programmed and performed on records by New Order, Gwen Stefani and Bjork.

The Video

Haven’t seen the whole original composition by James Banbury and Pete Davis for Smart’s Live More Campaign?  Well, listen and watch here 🙂

The Lyrics

I can relate to the song that it inspires me to live my life to the fullest.  It reminds me that time is in my hands and I shall own it and do the things that I like to do.  Listening to the song made me want to pursue my goals even more.  We should stop worrying because it’s our time and it’s our life!

It’s Your Life

My love is always the same,
It shines forever.
Shoot across the sky tonight,
(It’s your time)
I don’t want you to change,
It’s enough that you’re always there.
(It’s enough that you’re always there)

(It’s your time)
Feel the love
Shine forever
Here we go…

It’s your time
It’s your life

My life is more than a game,
(Calling out your name)
I don’t want you to change,
Yeah, I know that you’re always there.

Time’s your life
Make the most of every moment
Here we go…

It’s your time
It’s your life

How to Get a Copy
FREE and EXCLUSIVE to SMART Subscribers

There are 2 ways to use the song:  You can download the song in itself and listen to it in full or you can also download it as a ring back tune on your phone, isn’t that cool?

  • Full Song – Get your copy of the full song “It’s Your Life” for free by simply logging on to http://m.smart.com.ph/livemore and click on download.
  • Ring Back Tune – Be one of the first to have the song, “It’s Your Life” on your phone as a ring back!  Simply text LIVEMORE and send to 2728.  Enjoy this FREE for 30 days (auto expire).

The Smart Live More Campaign

Smart-Live-More

There wasn’t any mention of the Smart brand throughout the song but the message is clear: to Live More.  It’s really not about the telecommunications company but it’s about our time and our life.

With the song centered on our personal lives but a company pushing that message only means that Smart is working with the customers in mind.  If we read between the lines, then we can decipher the message that we can count on Smart for reliable connections (signal & network coverage) so we can spend more time on important things.

Nicely done Smart.  The song is perfect for the campaign!

Friendster FunXtion

Friendster FunXtion

We first heard about Friendster’s revamp last 2009.

This year, Friendster officially launched as Southeast Asia’s social discovery and gaming platform through a big event that happened at SM North Cyberzone Activity area entitled ‘Friendster FunXtion‘.  The event featured the unique fun experience that the new Friendster site offers such as playing online games, meeting new friends and winning cool prizes.

The event was hosted by Adz Sison and popular cosplayer, anime and gaming enthusiast, Ashley Gosiengfiao.

Friendster Prizes Hosts

There were cosplayers left and right.  I really love seeing them and how they brought their favorite anime characters into life.

Friendster Cosplay

These days, photo booth has always been a mainstay in events.  The ‘I love friendster funXtion photo’ was a good souvenir for those who attended the event.  I wasn’t able to have my picture taken but I enjoyed seeing several folks donning wacky wigs and making cute faces to the camera.

Friendster Photobooth

Gaming booths were stationed all over the activity area where it featured some of the games that Friendster has.  I did try one of them and I logged in to my friendster account once I got home to play more.  I was totally surprised!  Friendster was totally revamped!  I had to take a virtual tour of the site to understand what the new features are.  If you have an existing friendster account and haven’t been checking the site, you should try it now.

There were performances by Callalily, Gracenote and Paraluman in Friendster FunXtion.  I was able to catch the performance of Callalily, the crowd went wild when they came out!

Friendster Callalily

It was a pretty fun event!  I really wish Friendster the best as I’ve seen them repackage Friendster quite a few times for the past 3 years.  Hopefully, this time around, they get it right…  I do like their new tagline though: ‘friendster – living the game‘.

Friendster Logos

The changes were brought about by the acquisition of Friendster, Inc. by Asia’s leading e-payment and e-lifestyle provider – MOL Global Pte Ltd (MOL) in 2009.

Under the leadership of Friendster, Inc. Chief Operating Officer Mikhail Nikolai Galicia and MOL Global Group Chief Executive Officer Ganesh Kumar Bangah, friendster was repositioned from being a social networking site where testimonials were popular to a gaming platform where virtual currency can be used to purchase virtual goods, online games and applications.

Friendster Executives

The new Friendster included features such as a new user-friendly interface, selection of avatars to suit your personality, chat with friends via the Friendster Chat Application while playing games on Friendster, over 50 online games from 8 different genre like role-playing, strategy, simulations and card games, earn rewards through points for every activity within the site including adding friends, engaging with friends, daily log-in or playing any game and simple, easy-to-obtain virtual currency that can be used to purchase virtual goods, online games and applications in a safe and convenient manner.

Friendster Screenshot

Friendster was a social networking site pioneer.  It was the first social network site I got addicted to.  That was where I got several touching testimonials, that was where I was able to catch up with several friends and that was where I started to get addicted into networking with friends online.  This time around, Friendster repositioned itself to be a gaming platform.

Congratulations Friendster and good luck! 🙂  Visit friendster.com and discover the new site!
