When my friend told me that we’re going to eat at Kopi Tiam, I thought it was Old Chinatown Kopitiam, apparently not hehhe 😛  It’s a different place, owned by the same owners of North Park.

I loved it!  The food is yummy, delicious!  It’s affordable too.  There are lots of parking spaces as well.

The restaurant is good for lunch, dinner and also merienda as they have chinese breads, pastries available and also nice desserts!

Here are what we ordered:

  • Fresh Honey Lemonade (Php 78)
3910062326_0813c16e60

Same old lemonade but used honey as sugar… I think I like normal sugar better.  Ofcourse, this still tasted good as it’s not powdered, it’s fresh. 🙂

  • Snowy Mais Queso Con Yelo (Php 86)
3909280583_9b40d6502a

Normal Mais con yelo w/ a twist… sprinkled with cheese.  Just like how we serve spaghetti, we put a lot of cheese on top.  So this made it different.

  • Storm (Php 108)
3909280121_81eb2eb42e

Kopi Tiam called this dessert its favorite.  They even put “It’s a must”.  So I can see all the people on the other tables ordering it too.  I didn’t order it as I have chosen mais con yelo as my dessert.  My friend said that it’s good.  So I guess I’ll try it the next time I go to this restaurant hehee 😛

  • KingDao Salt & Pepper Spareribs (Php 168)
3909279253_c3bd2bd905

Not spicy, not too fat, cooked just right.  Sometimes when you eat spareribs, you feel like you’re taking the oil as well.  With this, you dont feel it much, so you can enjoy the food.

  • Boneless Honey Lemon Chicken (Php 212)
3910063694_ae8d1030a8

This one is really good.  I still like Lutong Macau’s version better.  I’m sure though that you/other people will definitely like Kopi Tiam’s version better.  I just love chicken skin a lot, not really into meat too much.

  • Kopi Tiam Chami (Php 188)
3910062784_8f26e32777

Combination of sotanghon & thin noodles, yummy yummy yummy.  It’s funny though that we ordered noodles instead of rice to go with the other dishes we ordered.  But we just wanted to try their noodles for a change.

They have only 2 branches though, one in Horseshoe village & one in Green Valley country club.  Hopefully they’ll open more branches, I believe this will be successful like North Park.

Had dinner w/ colleagues 2 weeks ago at SOMS Noodle house.  It’s an authentic Thai restaurant where you can dine in or take out.

1st thing I noticed is that there are lots of people dining there even if its outdoors, the chairs are just made of simple plastic.  Not really a place that usual people eat to.

The food is yummy & affordable too, that’s why people kept coming back.

Here are what we ordered:

  • Bagoong Fried Rice (Php 85)
3906575139_debcc485c8

What’s a Thai restaurant without bagoong rice?  Rice w/ soy sauce with scrambled eggs chopped, dried mango, meat w/ bagoong.  Nothing special but it’s good.

  • Gal Phat Pit (Php 120)
3907356314_d182c5875e

I kinda noticed we ordered 3 chicken dishes hahahaa.  I don’t know why 😛  This is somewhat spicy, I especially love the leaves cooked fried, yumyum!  Chicken basil :P:P

  • Thai Tea (Php 40)
3907355744_3755c80aec

Milk Tea put in mineral water bottle, not your usual milk tea.  I can’t seem to figure out what they put in the drink, it’s very sweet.

  • Garlic Pepper Beef (Php 120)
3907354260_289f51e58a

Beef is soft, easy to eat.  Not too peppery.  We can choose either beef, pork, chicken or shrimp as the ingredient 🙂

  • Red Curry Chicken (Php 120)
3906576731_d953ff750b

More spicy than the green one (see below) but I felt it tasted the same.  It’s just the color that’s different.  It tasted very good though 🙂

We also have the option to choose either beef, chicken, pork or shrimp as the main ingredient.

  • Green Curry Chicken (Php 120)
3907356842_b42393cc94

Same w/ the 2 menu items above, we can choose between beef, chicken, pork or shrimp as the ingredient.  I just dont know why we kept ordering chicken hahaha!

  • Vegetarian Curry (Php 120)
3907354746_3b5d4c3b5a

All the dishes taste the same, it’s just that the ingredients are different.  This time, it’s vegetables hehehehe

I’m not really fond of curry so I don’t think I’ll find myself to keep going back to the place.  But my colleagues do, they find the food at SOMS delicioouss!  They kept recommending the place too.  So I bet you might want to try this out if you haven’t, you won’t regret it 🙂

Rastro Cafe

sorry for the blur, i didn’t realize that my lens was covered by fog lolz

Rastro Cafe

——————–
Had lunch with Stef awhile ago, I asked if we could eat at a place that is newly opened.  She recommended Rastro Cafe.

It’s a friday but throughout lunch, we were the only customers.  I really hope this is not the case everyday coz if it is, then this restaurant will probably close in a few month’s time.

Rastro Cafe is a spanish restaurant.  We made sure we ordered their Paella specialty.  We were asked if we would want to try their buffet (Php 550 per person) but we declined.  Their buffet consists of several dishes, they offer it fridays, saturdays & sundays lunch & dinner time.  I wonder what will happen to the food they prepared as there was noone else in the restaurant but us.

Anyway, here are what we ordered:

  • Crema de Champion (Php 140)
3909174006_722b08d058

typical cream of mushroom soup that is more on the creamy side.

  • Salpicao (Php 250)
3909174346_5861bde3c6

Beef tenderloin sauteed in garlic & olive oil.  This is definitely one of the better tasting beef salpicao I tried so far.  Beef is tender and sauce is done really well, super good!

  • Paella ala Catalina (Php 850)
3909174626_46a60bf29b

According to the waiter, from all the paella dishes that they offer, this is the best (& ofcourse the most expensive :P).  We’ll have to wait for 20 minutes before this can be served though w/c is fine as Stef and I has a lot of stories to catch up to 🙂

A chef specialty, saffron rice w/ mussels, clams, shrimps, chicken & pork.  According to Stef, she likes Casa Armas’ paella better.  As for me, I think they all taste the same.  I like their rice, not dry and very tasty.

More pictures from our lunch here.

Vaccination against Cervical Cancer & more

I just had 1st shot of the vaccine last night.  There are a total of 3 shots that will need to be taken at a certain time interval.  2nd shot will need to be taken after 2 months while 3rd shot, 1 year after that.

3907375436_13d7bc5d82

Why did I decide to take the vaccine?

A month ago, our office clinical services organized a lunch & learn about cervical cancer & HPV.  Only ladies attended the training but it was such an enlightening event.  Most of us ended up ordering vaccines since they were on sale.  The original price per shot is Php5,000 but if we sign up that time, we’ll be able to get it at only Php3,000 per shot.

Here are my key takeaways from the training that made me decide to take it, there’s really nothing much to lose but a lot of things to gain from it:

  • cervical cancer is cancer of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects the womb & the vagina
  • it’s estimated that 8 out of 10 women will get HPV in their lifetime. (for most women HPV will clear on its own, but for some women who do not clear certain types, cervical cancer & other diseases can develop).
  • there’s no way to know whether a female’s body will or won’t clear the virus.
  • 3 out of 4 HPV infections occur in women ages 15 to 24.
  • It’s estimated that many people get HPV within their first 2 to 3 years of becoming sexually active.
  • while half of all women who develop cervical cancer are between 35 and 55 years old, many of these women were probably exposed to a cancer-causing HPV type in their teens or 20s.
  • 600 women die each day from cervical cancer worldwide.

There are about 30-40 HPV genital types but there is a vaccine available to protect ourselves against the ff. cancers & diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16 & 18:

Picture 2

  • cervical cancer
  • vulvar cancer
  • vaginal cancer
  • genital warts

A vaccination is an essential part of protecting ourselves against diseases.  Though it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to get the disease, it’s still best for us to protect ourselves.

Here is me with nurse Lhany while she was preparing me for the shot (not painful, so don’t worry), talk to your doctor about helping to protect yourself against cervical cancer, you need it 🙂

So It was Chiz Escudero after all!

Remember my blog post a few days back about a video called Apokalipto
It is confirmed!  The person in the video wearing a red hood was Chiz Escudero!!

This is the coolest political ad I have ever seen!  It clearly showed the senator’s advocacy (people empowerment) and in a cool, cool & hip way!  Seems like the senator is following the footsteps of President Obama by reaching out to the youth.

He is, after all the youngest presidentiable if ever (let’s see if he submits his candidacy).  Chiz is turning 40 this October 10, 2009 which is the minimum age to run for presidency.

The 2nd video “SALOT” showed how Chiz & the people together fought the “salot” in the country:

  • Kamangmangan
  • Kahirapan
  • Walang Pakialam
  • Korupsyon
Both videos can be found at Bagong Sigla’s YouTube Page.
