Chiz, I’m Confused
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 12, 2009
The first time I met with Chiz Escudero was in August 2009. There was a bloggers Meet and Greet Chiz Escudero event. I asked him straight out during that first meet & greet, if he was running for the presidency.Without hesitation, Chiz Escudero answered, “yesâ€.
At the time, I was quite impressed at how determined he was & how confident he was that he can lead the change for our Philippines.
We all know what has happened since then:
- Cory died.
- Mar Roxas dropped out of the race, and
- Noynoy Aquino is now the Liberal Party’s candidate.
Then all of a sudden, Chiz Escudero quit his party, the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). Like a lot of people, like many of his supporters, I was confused.
So last Saturday (November 7), I attended a bloggers’ meeting with Chiz Escudero at Annabel’s in Quezon City. I was excited to go as I had sooooooo many questions to ask Chiz about his plans on the presidency.

I was expecting to get a concrete answer. To be honest, I was surprised. Last Saturday, I saw a different Chiz from the one who met bloggers last August. I’m not sure if he was acting or if he is just confused at the moment. It wasn’t the same Chiz I got to admire during the first meet.
When I asked him the same question I did during the first meet and greet, about his plans to run, the answer I got was unfortunately, “not sure yet.â€
Chiz Escudero said that he doesn’t know and will still need to decide. He mentioned he’ll decide on November 15 and will share with us his decision come December 1.
What changed?

Shomal Kebabs & Curries by Hossein

I bet, if you’ve been reading my blog that you’ve already noticed I love Persian food. Just last week, I blogged about Arya Persian Restaurant. I’ve been craving a lot lately for comfort food. I guess this is because of the stress I’ve been feeling these days.
I love the way the restaurant was designed. It has its Indian, Persian, Arabian feel into it. I especially love the chandeliers on the ceiling. I can’t seem to take my eyes off it.
Here are what we ordered:
- Chelo Beef Kebab Share (Php 405)
My ever-favorite Persian menu item. Hayyyyy Hossein’s saffron rice is just superb! I can just eat their rice without anything and I would still feel satisfied.
The Chelo Beef Kebab on the other hand is ground beef charboiled with Middle Eastern herbs & Persian Spices. I actually forgot about the garlic & chili sauce already as the ground beef was enough to make me satisfy my craving & hunger! Yummy!
This actually has a solo version which is priced at Php225. Can you keep a secret? I know it isn’t enough for me! hahahaha that was how hungry I was before we ordered food.
- Chelo Saffron Chicken Kebab (Php 465)
For chicken lovers, this is Persian version of how chicken breasts should be cooked: marinated with Persian Saffron blend.
I would suggest you dip your chicken on the sauce on the plate so it won’t taste dry. It was good as well but nothing beats the chelo beef kebab! 😀
- Fresh Mango Juice (Php 130)
I don’t feel any water was combined with this drink. I loved it! It was very fresh and sweet! 🙂
- Tom Yam Goong Share (Php 173)
I wonder why I ordered a Thai dish when we were at a Persian Restaurant hahaha. So I don’t have anyone to blame but myself that I didn’t like this dish. One order of this has 4 pieces shrimp, 2 pieces tomato, 4 pieces of mushroom and lots of soup lolz! That was it! 😛
More pictures here.
It was a very expensive meal, indeed! I don’t feel the cheaper comment from the Shomal staff. They just changed the name. That was all.
This is still one of my comfort food, I just love the food!
I really hope that next time they really open a cheaper version. This is not a valid cheaper version as they claim. It’s as expensive as Hossein. See my post about it here.

ä¿å®‰å®® Pao-an Temple is by far the best temple I have visited in Taipei. It had such beautiful design, painting & carvings in the building. People do go there for a certain purpose & is one of the leading religious places.
Upon entering, you will be able to see a guide on how to go around ä¿å®‰å®® Pao-an Temple. It will tell you where to visit first and which spirit to worship.
Construction of the taoist temple started in 1805 and took 25 long years to be built. Emperor Pao-Shen is the focus of worship at ä¿å®‰å®® Pao-an Temple. He was a popular & highly skilled doctor when he was still alive. People go to ä¿å®‰å®® Pao-an Temple to seek for good health.
Other notables are the ff.:
Open-mouthed lions as a sign of good governance & rule of law. There were 2 of them by the way, a male & a female.

The goddess of birth that reside in the bell tower has 12 female aides that help assist childbirth during a given month. This is very popular for pregnant women.

Action Photography Workshop at R.O.X.
Posted by Rochelle Sy Chua On November 6, 2009

Last night, I attended the Action Photography Workshop at R.O.X. (Recreational Outdoor eXchange), Bonifacio High Street.
It was a free 2-part workshop with professional photographer Benjamin M. Chan of Blacksheep Photography. The topic was Action photography 101 and was co presented by Canon. I’ve been wanting to learn this as I’ve been unsuccessful with my action shots. I know I’ve been doing something wrong and would want to get tips from a professional action photographer. So this was a good opportunity.
I arrived 30 minutes after it started because of traffic. I missed the introduction and I felt that it was the most important part of the lecture as the speaker defined what action photography is. Anyhow, I was still able to catch lots of tips from Ben Chan. I feel though that this workshop was more suited for advanced photographers or at least someone who already took basic photography.

Here are some of the things I learned from the event:
3 types of Action Shots:
- Static Shot – camera in a static position, subject moving towards the camera.
- Panning Shot – camera in a static position but panning along subject’s perpendicular direction.
- Tracking Shot – camera moves alongside subject’s direction.
- Conceptualize – get inspired by reading, watching, imagining, daydreaming
- Visualize – make doodles, sketches, snapshots
- Organize – call, meet & plan
The secret to good pictures are lightings. Ben showed us the difference between using just 1 light, 2 lights & 3 lights. Now I know, I need to buy a flash for my Canon G10.

Ben also showed us his recent photo shoot for a magazine, Bull Runner. Pretty cool pictures! We loved it! I took pictures of the slides so you’d get an idea what I’m talking about.

Once again, I would like to thank Canon, R.O.X. & Blacksheep photography for this opportunity. Too bad, I won’t be able to join tomorrow’s workshop as I have a seminar to attend this weekend. I don’t think I’ll be able to join the contest as well. I had work today and tomorrow I have a whole-day seminar to attend. So assignment fail for me huhuhuhuhuhu :'(
