Recipe: Bagis

Bagis Recipe

I’ve never heard of Bagis.  I only discovered it through Kawaling Pinoy, a website owned by a Filipina.  I love her photos and her recipes are very easy to follow.  When I saw her photo of Bagis, it got me interested.  I saw that the main ingredients in this dish are ground beef, calamansi juice and thai child peppers.  I wondered how Bagis tasted like.  That pushed me to go ahead and try the recipe for myself.

I loved the combination of flavours in Bagis!  It was citrusy, spicy and juicy!  I would make this again 🙂

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 kilo ground beef
  2. 1 medium onion, diced
  3. 5 cloves garlic, minced
  4. 5 thai chili peppers
  5. 1/2 cup calamansi juice
  6. 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  7. 1 tablespoon oil
  8. 1 cup water
  9. salt to taste
Instructions
  1. Add oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic. Cook until onions are translucent.
  3. Add fish sauce and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until beef is lightly brown in color.
  5. Add chili peppers.
  6. Stir ingredients.
  7. Add water and bring to a boil.
  8. Lower heat, cover the pot and let simmer for 25 minutes.
  9. Add calamansi juice and continue to simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Season with salt.
  11. Serve and enjoy!
