Recipe: Pork Chop Steak
January 17, 2014

Breaded pork chops are everywhere especially in Manila. There’s katsu here, katsu there, katsu everywhere. The price isn’t even cheap. However, there’s one type of pork chop that I want, that is the Filipino pork chop!
In true Filipino style, I tried cooking Pork Chop Steak or Bistek Pork Chops. The difference is with the marinade and the ingredient used in it … which is the calamansi!
I was hoping to use the marinator I ordered but I forgot to pick it up in time for cooking the dish. So I marinated the pork chops in a traditional way. It still worked out great. If you have cooked bistek tagalog before, then this is the same procedure, you just have to exchange the beef with pork chops. I will try out bistek tagalog next time but right now, the star of the dish is pork chops!
- 4 pieces pork chops
- 5 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 piece lemon or several pieces calamansi
- cooking oil
- 2 pieces medium onions, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- salt and pepper to taste
- Put soy sauce, calamansi/lemon and pork chops in a container.
- Marinade the pork chops for at least one hour.
- Heat some oil in a pan.
- Fry the marinated pork chops for 5 minutes on each side.
- Pour the remaining marinade to the pan.
- Add water, and let boil.
- Simmer for 45 minutes.
- Add sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Add onions, and cook for 5 minutes more.
- Serve an enjoy!
