Recipe: Braised Tofu with Ground Pork
April 28, 2013

I should be veering away from tofu considering the food poisoning incident that happened to me a few months ago. But what the heck, I learned that if we get tofu, we should consume it within 3 weeks. Now, I made sure I followed that rule. I never ever wanted to remove tofu in my diet because it is extremely delicious!
While I was searching for recipes online, the thing that I was looking for was the ease of cooking the dish. Steamy Chicken posted a recipe with a video on how to prepare Chinese braised tofu with ground pork. I had to watch the video several times, but the recipe was really easy to follow. So there, I tried making my own version 🙂
- 1 block tofu
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 500 grams ground pork
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 cup chicken broth (dissolve 1/2 cube of chicken boullion in 1 cup hot water)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 stalk green onion, chopped
- Drain the tofu by placing them on paper towels.
- Cut the tofu into rectangular size.
- Season tofu with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat pan with cooking oil at medium-high.
- Slide the tofu slices into the pan in a single layer.
- Fry the tofu for one minute on each side until both sides are golden brown in color.
- Remove the tofu from the pan and transfer to a container.
- In the same pan, sauté ground pork for 2 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and ginger into the pan and stir fry for 30 seconds.
- Add chicken broth, oyster sauce and soy sauce.
- In a separate bowl, mix water and corn starch.
- Add the corn starch mixture into the pan and simmer everything.
- Add the cooked tofu back into the pan.
- Let simmer for 5 minutes until sauce is thickened.
- Add green onion and mix together.
- Transfer into a dish container and enjoy!

One of my favourite food ever is tofu! I’m glad that at least I get to learn one tofu dish already. I would probably try some more in the future.
