Realization about World of Warcraft

world-of-warcraft-logo

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft since end-November 2008. I was a bit addicted that I subscribed to a recurring 6-month subscription, bought the World of Warcraft Battlechest then Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Pack.

I started playing at “Coilfang” server then moved to “Bonechewer”. With the help of a plurk friend, I was able to reach level 55 as he levelled his new character with mine at the same time and also helped run my character in dungeons & instances using his main.

I was also able to join a famous filipino guild called Shadow Circle. Last night, I attended their eyeball for the 1st time. I felt a lil out of place coz their characters are already level 80s (mine’s only 55) and they’ve known each other for such a long time (way back Ragnarok days). I myself don’t know any of them and being a very shy person, I ended up just listening them talk while I play with my phone & camera.

They are soo passionate about the game that I ended up reflecting myself. Do I see myself being so serious about the game? Am I willing to allot hours every week just to be able to join raids? Do I have the time and energy to learn about the game and be good at it? Am I willing to shed 15 dollars every month? lots of things went through my mind.. I really admire the guild members & officers for being so good at the game yet they also excel at things outside the game WoW.

I think I can still continue to play as long as I take it slow, meaning I’ll just play on my spare time (maybe just twice a week for only a few hours). Play at my own pace, even if I’ll level only once a week. This is so I can appreciate the game more and at the same time, I have enough time for other stuff.

Anyhow, I decided to cancel the recurring subscription to WoW. I can always bring this back, but for now, I have to control myself from being addicted. My subscription ends July 12, 2009. Let’s see.

I still have 3 months to play the game. Will I be able to reach level 80? (I’m afraid that if I will, I won’t be able to control it and be addicted completely.)

Do you think I made the right decision? Tell me your thoughts..

It’s really relative on what do you think is of value to you in your life? What matters to you Roch? 🙂 If you think WOW helps you to become a better you e.g. like you do meet friends in WOW right? or if WOW is the only way that helps you to unwind from work without getting hooked. Then continue if you want 🙂 But also explore other activities like outing, beach, caving (hehehe), karaoke with friends, or just go read a book or something 🙂

The great thing about World of Warcraft is there’s something fun for everyone. Nobody is forcing you to play the game a certain way; you play it the way you want it, the important thing is you find your fun in the game.I’ve quit this game like 3 times, I always find myself going back to it. Azeroth is like an old familiar place to me … also, it’s the people you play with that makes the game more interesting.other games just don’t hold a candle to it.chill out. take it easy and have fun. 🙂 if it stops being fun then take a break. maybe you’ll find something new about the game you’ll like next time.

if you think everyone that was there last night knew each other for years, well -you’re wrong. well there are some of us that were from RO-SC, but alot of them are new faces to us too. some of them are officemates, some of us just met and talked to each other IRL for the first time… and honestly not everyone are 100% present in raids.like what evixo(? i think thats him lol) said, no one’s really forcing you to play any differently -play at your own pace, if you’re not comfortable with our schedule then you don’t need to force yourself to go along with us.i can understand that you felt a little out of place during the discussion, i joined the guild from scratch.. during the last few weeks of TBC, while i was a lowbie minding my own quests and whatnots, i couldn’t relate with them either when they talked about raids~WoW isn’t all about the raids, or the achievements, or whatever, it’s also a place to socialize, you can meet new friends or learn a thing or two from other people.don’t worry about it too much, just make your own pace and be comfortable with your surroundings. i don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we also have alot of casual players in the guild.so just chill out and have fun. =)

Hey Rochelle!I can relate to that realization of yours. I’m a good example of playing at your own pace in Shadow Circle. Ask the core members–everyone (even my officemates) were pressuring me to get to 70 and 80 ASAP. When we planned to form the guild, they were hoping that I would be main tank. In the end, I decided that I just want to play casually. I ended up not being able to raid with them, but I was still able to interact with the guild quite well last night. 🙂 I think Shadow Circle members are very passionate about the game, but what’s really great about them is that they are able to extend the relationship from in-game to real life. Right now, even though I don’t get to play with them as often as before, I’m really happy that we’re still friends when we meet up.

Three months is actually more than enough to get you to level 80, even if you only play for around two hours or less everyday. So relax and take it easy. It’s you who plays the game, not the other way around. ^_^

I played WoW since beta. My most recent server is at Echo Isles with a couple of ex-Ragnarok players including my guildmates as well. I've seen how it affected my life and lifestyle as well. It was just this year, after having 3 level 80s that I quitted the game. It gave me the biggest lesson life, how I wasted so much time and effort instead of facing a lot of real things. Naging adik kasi ako sa raiding and PVP. Imagine, I had a level 60 at Darkspear, I used to be a hardcore raider in Bonechewer as well with two Level 60s (that was pre TBC pa) and now I have 3 Level 80s dressed up for raids. Not dedicated, yeah? LOLListen to them, take it easy. Play whenever you want to. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to. TC.
